When u work for more than 10 years, u will get a letter from SS and they will tell you how much money u put in SS that is when u will get retire or become permantely disabled. They earned this. As for people who collect SSI and SSA does not work much and we pay tax to help those people. hope it makes sense to u?
Yes, it is clear now, Jazzy. For those who have NOT worked the required 10 years, there is a law that says they ARE qualified for ssi or ssa thru those same tax dollars we pay. Now we know that there are SOME recipients who abuse the system but I don't say much about it although I could as a taxpayer and I have in the past but it gets tiresome. There are many who, under the law, rightfully receive these benefits on a temporary basis.
These benefits are kinda like war reparations, meaning that the US government is acknowledging that the deaf, generally, are oppressed in the job market and elsewhere and it (gov't) has/is using stop-gap measures to try and level the playing field.
