The Celtic Cross Tarot Lay-Out

Question: What do I need to do in order to become a successful filmmaker?

The 1st card, together with the 2nd (crossing it), shows the dynamic energies involved in the current situation. It represents the invisible structure, the essence of the Querent. Which inevitably is the answer to whatever she is seeking. Card 1 is the general tone of the reading and is the answer to the challenge for the Querent right now.

8 of Coins –

Indicates that you have the skills to achieve your goals but need further training. This card denotes hard work, immense dedication & super concentration on a personal goal. It indicates that it’s necessary for you to find a mentor. Because it’s really practical experience that you most deeply desire. You are like the man shown in the card who is diligently working long, hard & patiently as an apprentice. Although this sounds far from glamorous it is the very best way to learn any art, or skill. Under the tutelage of a true master is where your near future lies. This will be the best course of action for you to personally achieve your desired goal. This is a highly spiritual card & indicates that as we sow we reap. But the material realm takes time! Earth energy manifests slowly. So there is also a connection to the divine in this card, although subtle, in it’s reference it’s a reminder that all work is God’s work. Take pride in your position no matter that you are an apprentice. The 8 is a highly karmic number. This is the card of applied skill & great devotion to a task or project. You will have to work hard but when the rewards come they will be greater than you’ve ever imagined. Again, be on the look out for a mentor. They will definitely be crossing your path. They will assist you in achieving your heart’s desire. As long as you are willing to be dedicated to working hard as well as dreaming big. You will see your desires unfold in the material world.

The second card crosses the first & may show the obstacles and problems pertaining to the question &/or situation. It symbolizes the immediate influences that confront the questioner; positive & negative. However, if the card is positive, it is supportive of the first card.

IV The Emperor –

Ruled by Aries, this card denotes a dynamic charismatic knowledgeable man or woman who is coming into your future. But you must first sincerely allow them to enter your life. This is your wise & gifted mentor. But they are tough. The challenge is that you are perhaps stubborn when working in subordination to another. You are surely capable for the task at hand but impatient. Or unwilling to follow the lessons your mentor wishes to teach you. The card offers a lesson as well. Which is what many of us need to understand is that even when we appear to be working under another we are in fact also teaching as well. Your mentor may not outwardly express this fact, but believe it! They know it! After all, they were once an apprentice themselves! Remember this! Like them once, you too must first learn the basics in the field you wish to excel in. This man/woman has all the knowledge you seek. They are deliberate, practical & methodical. If you can sincerely accept the humble role of student & subordinate your will to theirs you shall succeed beautifully in attaining the loftiest of your goals & desires. In fact, this relationship will expand your mind & bring prosperity into all areas of your life. For the wisest are always seekers of knowledge & thus perpetual students of life. Even if your mentor appears at times to be difficult let this fall away like water gracefully rolling off of a duck’s back. You will have far more to gain by remaining humble & listening than by fighting them. Be relaxed, appreciative, attentive & even loving in their presence. For you will gain much from your association with this person. If even at first you find them difficult. Be patient. They have very honorable reasons for their teaching methods. And your character will be immensely strengthened & transformed in the most positive of ways. Approach your work & learning with devotion, love & respect & you cannot expect anything but great success!

The 3rd card is at the root or foundation of the Querent’s question. It represents a far distant experience or recurring theme in the Querent’s life which still has great influence over her pervading thoughts (most likely subconscious) & subsequent actions. Studying this card along with the 4th offers insights into the unconscious motivations of the Querent regarding his/her question. It may indicate a childhood experience positive, or negative. But one which has molded the adult personality of the Querent.

XI Justice -

This card refers to the spiritual world, or divine justice. Although perhaps manmade laws attempt to mirror divine justice it’s often a double edged sword; for some there are rewards & for others’ punishment. But for all of us who are deeply aware, there is an important lesson to be learned. The lesson in this card is that in reality it’s our very own thoughts which create the world around us. Like attracts like. Our inner thoughts create our external worlds. Actions create reactions. Since this card refers to your distant past, you should think about how you feel you’ve been judged in the far past. Fairly or unfairly? Rewarded or punished? In this remembering you will likely discover that you have possibly judged yourself too harshly. Or maybe you’ve been unforgiving towards others? In either situation, this has caused turmoil & stressful situations. So now it’s imperative to forgive those who have trespassed against you & those who you may have trespassed against. It’s time to wipe the slate clean. Let go of grudges no matter how great. This is the only way to move forward freely & happily without guilt or anger. Most of all lovingly forgive yourself. From this time onward be extremely mindful of your own actions; in thought & in deed. For both will effect some future reaction. By learning the cosmic law of cause & effect you will be lead to a new journey of self-discovery, self- love & a deeper connection to your inner guide; your own judge. What kind of judge will you be? Harsh & tyrannical. Or compassionate & loving. The choice is yours. And your external world will be made manifest accordingly. This card is ruled by Libra.

This 4th card is behind the questioner and represents something fading away; the recent past. It is necessary to study this card along with the 3rd card as these cards may together indicate a recurring theme/energy in the Querent’s life. This theme/energy, if a hindrance to the Querent’s ability in moving forward, will need to be understood & then released in order for her to achieve her current aims & desires with courage, self-assuredness & joy. If it’s a positive past experience then it indicates experiential lessons & gifts learned & mastered which will now assist her in attaining her goal with unwavering focus & self-confidence.

7 of Cups -

This is a card indicating flights of fancy. Or various temptations. It indicates that there was a recent situation when you made a choice. And it may have been the wrong one. You may still carry some sorrow, guilt or anger over having chosen this option. Because there were others available to you at the time as well. Perhaps your heart was broken. Or a good friend let you down. Or you did something negative to another person. The number 7 is a very spiritual number & deals with mastery over our emotions. This means control over our minds. In essence, the 7 of cups is a really gift. Even when it indicates sorrow. For it’s often through our most painful, or embarrassing experiences that we find the greatest lessons. They offer us tremendous gifts of strength. If we learn to become vigilant in our lives. To respect ourselves & others is to always make the most honorable choice in all we say, do & think. When we believe that there is no other choice we are really deluding ourselves. And allowing our emotions to control our impulses. It is necessary to turn inward whenever making choices in our life. Especially when we are overwhelmed by so many temptations. Remain pure in thought, action & deed and your intuition will guide you in the right direction. If you cannot calm your emotions seek advice from an impartial wise counselor. But you will discover that you contained the correct answer all along.

The 5th card crowns the Querent. It shows her intentions, aspirations & expectations; conscious and unconscious heart’s desires. Expressing what is coming into fruition for the Querent right now. With proper thought, action & attitude this strong energy can be transformed into something positive, or negative. It shows the power of the Querent’s mind in achieving her dreams & goals.

Page of Pentacles –

The Pages represent either a part of your personality, an event or a young person. It’s difficult to know. But will become apparent after studying the entire reading. I tend to believe that this refers to an event or upcoming opportunity for you. Since it’s a coin/pentacle suit it refers to the material world & this career & finances. You will be receiving a message that there is a wonderful door opening up for you. It shows a positive change in your career & finances.

Card #6 indicates the sphere of influence which is coming into being. It’s the Querent’s near future. This card represents what is about to occur. It's a strong waxing energy which can be felt. An opportunity/person/situation/event coming into being quickly.

XVI The Tower –

This card symbolizes creative chaos. It’s a supercharged energy. Electrifying. It’s often unexpected & shocking. But now you have a head’s up, so relax & enjoy the change. Because change is definitely on it’s way. If you’ve been in a rut, change is coming to you in a big way. It’s a very necessary change & will inspire your imagination. It will also clear away what is no longer needed in your life. There is a need to achieve equilibrium in your life through proper use of sexual or creative energy. So do not mourn, or cling to outworn, ideas, people or things. Let them go with love & appreciation. And open your heart to the new opportunities, ideas & people coming into your life. This is another 7 vibration because The Tower is the 16th card in the major arcane. So this card may refer back to the 7 of Cups. For instance, perhaps you are still clinging to something that really you should be letting go of to move on? The Tower will make sure that not only do you let go but that your life changes tremendously & progressively. This energy for some is Uranian. Others’ say that it’s ruled by Mars. It’s weird, fascinating, scary & erratic. But it’s beautiful & a very necessary force clearing things away in order for us to increasingly learn, expand & grow. Like lightening striking the forests & creating destructive wildfires; it allows for future growths & greater strengths. One only need to remain balanced & in control of their emotions whilst this event, or person is entering their life. It could even indicate that you will be falling in love! It’s not necessarily a negative situation but it will be one that will shape your future in a most profoundly passionate way. If you embrace the changes that The Tower indicates, rather than fight against this force, you will not experience anxiety or difficulties. Remember it’s how you react to life that makes an experience positive or negative.

The 7th card symbolizes the shadow side of the Querent herself in connection to the question. It shows her hidden attitude to the present situation. This card symbolizes the true stance of the Querent in regards to her desire, or goal. It symbolizes the current internal energies at work.

King of Cups –

He is called, “The Prince of The Chariot of Waters”. This card, although represents yourself, also indicates a hidden desire or longing. And this desire would seem to be initially to attract a man who has the traits which the King of Cups symbolizes. This card represents a mature, loving & creative man. If he has no outwardly creative talents then he is someone who appreciates the finer things in life. He likes music, dance, art, literature & socializing. He enjoys people & life in general. He enjoys children, games & perhaps being near the water. A very likeable & charming man he may also subtly manipulate others with his magnetic personality. He could be over sentimental or smothering & possessive. However, if your secret desire is not in fact to attract a mate, then this card will represent how you wish to be perceived. You are a loving provider for your family or wish to be thought of in such a way. It may also represent a longing for someone from whom you have been separated. If the separation is one of permanence, in the sense that they have departed the material world, then perhaps you wish to honor them by emulating them? Or you wish to attract a like energy to you to repair the love lost? If it’s the energy of someone who is still physically here but the relationship ended, there may still be a desire to reunite. There is a strong unconscious need to meet a similar man/woman in order to recreate the same relationship dynamics. This person would be under the astrological influences of Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces. Or these are archetypal traits that you yourself would like to exemplify.

Card #8 card represents the interactions of the immediate surroundings. The current external environment (home, family & friends) of the Querent. Shows support, love, assistance or conflict from outer influences. Could indicate untapped resources. Or negative influences which need to be confronted in order to achieve the desired outcome.

3 of Swords –

This is an emotional card & usually indicates great sadness of some sort. Is there familial pain & suffering which those in your family make it difficult for you to let go of? It could be something that stretches back several generations in your family. Maybe the position of this card refers to unhappiness in the marriage between our parents. It may not directly refer to our selves but instead to others closest to us. The pain is visceral. And more painful than the memory or experience that this card refers to is the lesson; which in my opinion is even more difficult to grasp & accept. And this is that we need pain in order to learn & grow. Pain is a powerful catalyst for change if we make the correct choices & respond to the challenge with a fierce determination. And not get torn apart by life’s sometime seemingly cruelty. The lesson is to always move forward with love in our heart. We may have tears in our eyes but we must always keep our hearts open & loving. For soon the bright golden warm rays of the Sun will dry our eyes & lead us to untold beauty & happiness. Life is continuous no matter how shattering a situation may be. At the very same time there are always new beginnings. So by focusing on the right things in life you will overcome all setbacks & obstacles. And you will be rewarded for your patience & courage. Your heart & soul will always rebound, transform & be renewed; stronger than ever. This card gives you the gift of perseverance in the face of adversity. It gives you great character & strength.

The 9th card defines the internal energies of the Querent herself. Her hopes & fears. It clarifies the inner emotions, passionate desires, anxieties and unexpressed thoughts. Indicating how things frequently evolve in the Querent’s life. Often more than she’d like to admit.

The High Priestess –

This major arcana card is ruled by the Moon. It is a card of reflection & repose. She is cosmic femininity veiled in mystery. Cool, distant & beautiful she remains illusive. Yet she is the yin to The Magician’s yang. She is the connection to both trump card I The Magician & XI Justice. The High Priestess offers the wisdom that there should be balance in all things. She is the meditative will of the mind which The Magician uses to create tangible forms of his creative ideas. She is the inner guide which is contained within all of us; a divine judge. You have available to you very great insights & wisdom. To some these energies may appear very strange. If you do not feel comfortable following your intuition you will need to learn how to tap into this fountain of strength. You have this ability more naturally than others, although there may be hesitation on your part to rely on this aspect of your self. If this is true, then you will find that life is continually testing you, in order for you to recognize, appreciate & utilize your resource. This card also indicates a very strong creative urge but there is a tendency towards inactivity. Lots of thinking without action will not achieve tangible results. There must be balance between yin & yang, dark & light, male & female, thought & action. If this is a pattern in your life then perhaps you need to learn how to ground yourself & recharge so that you are frequently inspired & motivated. The High Priestess could show too much reflection & not enough action; procrastination & immobility. So by grounding yourself & becoming renewed this will assist you in completing important tasks & achieving your personal goals. This card could also indicate a need to go out more. A need for socializing, healthy mental stimulation & continued promoting of friendships & partnerships of all kinds.

The 10th card is the final position. It represents the result to be expected if the previous advice of the cards is followed. It’s a culmination of the overall influence of the entire reading. This card represents the most positive desired outcome possible.
Ace of Swords –

This card is one of great mental agility & ability. Ruled by all the Air signs; Gemini, Libra & Aquarius. This card is one of tremendous ingenuity, mental sharpness, creative thought & great bravery. There is a determination here that may borderline on obsession. If the sword is used correctly they you will rule & lead others by divine right; not egoistic might. It’s a very beautiful card & is extremely auspicious; signaling good-luck in all endeavors in the realm of thoughts, ideas & making your dreams manifest on the Earth plane. You are being given a divine gift. And the Ace of Swords is a sign that you & your ambitious dreams are blessed from above. You are being supported to go after your desires. The timing for your project is fortuitous & you will be guided along in this new journey.
