Why did I force myself to stand between both deaf and hearing worlds?
By Rajiv [RJR2006]

My deafness makes communications tougher, yet
I am surrounded by hearing world

My feelings are hurt when I am deaf and very lonely
Oh my god, the deafness made me not speak
well verbally and many hearing people
don’t want to be bothered with me,
just because I don’t speak very well
I see a lot of people talking to each other through lips, my heart
hurts a lot because I feel left out

I am forced to be with hearing people, and
They walk away from me because I am deaf
I wish I was not deaf, but why did deafness occur?

Deafness and loneliness hurts me a lot, but I have
good English skills that enables me to express my own feelings
Yet, most of hearing people are afraid to communicate
because they think deaf people don’t speak English well
just because their speech is not good

Hearing people sometimes think that deaf people
are slow, but they are not slow, just normal people with “broken ears”.

Oh, Thank you God, and my parents for having me
learn how to read and write through
Signed Exact English from my early childhood,
it makes me feel more comfortable with the hearing world.
Yet, it is very frustrating because the hearing world
doesn’t want to be bothered to talk to me,
maybe someday things will change.

E-N-G-L-I-S-H is widely used by hearing people and I am very
grateful to have learned English the right way
so I can communicate with the hearing world.
In time, people will listen to me and want to know me!

The End
