Im having trouble understanding aussie words could anyone help me out?
 
wanker. Someone who makes something more of what may be an inconsequential thing. There are other meanings. Strictly speaking, but still a colloquial term, one who masturbates.

No, Americans in general don't use the word. In fact I'm not sure I've ever heard it actually used by an American, though it is recognized as a piece of British/Australian slang. It is somewhat more offensive in British use than Americans typically realize.

That said, wanker, which means roughly 'a contemptible person', is a figurative use of the earlier meaning, 'a person who masturbates', which in turn is from wank, which means as a noun 'an act of masturbation' and as a verb 'to masturbate'. This roughly parallels the semantic development of words like jerkoff in American slang.

The origin of the word is uncertain. The only likely suggestion is that it is a development of an English dialect word whang which means 'to beat or strike'. Note that there are various other expressions for masturbation which are based on senses of striking, such as "beat off" or "whack off." Note also that whang is used to mean 'penis' in American slang; this may be a coincidence.

I know quite a number of Aussie slangs as I lived there for 6.5 years...just can't think of some at this stage, lol.
