Do you remember the last time you had to pay more to park than to have a meal?

Here are 2 examples:

1. I was recently asked to meet someone at a Dairy Queen in downtown Chicago. There was no parking lot for Dairy Queen. However, there is a lot nearby that charges $8 per day. I did not want to go and meet the person. I just cannot justify paying $8 for parking to hang out at Dairy Queen. Can you believe that parking costs more than meal itself? There are many Dairy Queens that I would go to that does not cost anything to park. Therefore, I didn't go.

2. Few years ago, I had my girlfriend(now ex) and her Mom come to Chicago for a visit. I decided to show them Navy Pier. It was $24 to park at Navy Pier garage. That costs more than dining out at Navy Pier. I would justify it because Navy Pier is an attractive tourist sight. There is nothing like Navy Pier. I may not agree to the parking price, but if someone from out of town wants to visit Navy Pier, I want to be a good host.

What are some example where you had to pay more for parking than a meal. Were they justified?

Well, I can't drive, but when I wasn in school, my classmates and staff came to Navy Pier, and it cost a lot then, and there was grumbling from staff cause they couldn't find parking.

Chicago needs to stop taking advantage of people by charging ridiculous high parking fees! That's one reason why I avoided going to Downtown. It's a parking nightmare.

That's what the Metra is for. I save up to 40 minutes riding that downtown than taking the #151 bus, which can take up to 65 minutes to make it to Union Station.

just FYI - stinginess is not an attractive trait. it's not like you're gonna park there everyday. I do go visit a friend in NYC for a bowl of pho and the bridge toll costs almost twice more than pho.

EXACTLY WHY I TOOK A MEGABUS INSTEAD to NYC from Syracuse ny. :giggle:

Megabus is CHEAP. However, I don't think they serve Southern IL, though. I've seen them around CUS with signs saying trips could cost low as $1, and I'm like, seriously? Greyhound costs more than ten times that.

Parking in most city can be costly . I know in Boston you could spend $25.00 to park your car to go out to eat . The meal would be least $100 for two people at nice restaurant . I think more people are using the public transportation as it's less of a hassle than trying to find a place to park in the city.

Same problems parking downtown historic Charleston.

Well, come to think of this... why 6 pack of coke cost more than a beer??

Really, back then when I stopped at 7-11 store and I walk up the fridge. I noticed there are two sticker price side by side on the shelves, there's group of beers on the right and soda pops on the left.... I tried to decided what drink I want for the night....just by looking at the price... 6 pack coke $5.49, 6 pack of Old Milwaukee $4.39... ok....who win??

I'd take the pop. At least I won't end up in jail for disorderly conduct for being drunk in public.
