How about other way...
1) Get CI
2) Silence for good
3) Keep on mind on between CI and Silence, just like have hard time to decide.
4) Others... Please post here...

No Anti-CIers, please...

It's including for your family members like son, daughter, wife and husband...

For me, I voted #3 because I'm keeping think about want upgrade into new CI device but Freedom isn't work on mine because I got surgery in 1999 and Freedom is released in 2005.

It is simply a choice to decide between trying (as a possibility) a CI and that of accepting one's deafness. There is no right or wrong answer with this. Each to their own...

FYI - I chose answer #3.

I voted for the first choice. B/c a CI doesn't stop you living in deaf world / culture. You still have choice to 'switch' to deaf world when you turn off CI.

Of course, everyone has their own ideas ,choices and rights. I just stated mine :)

I'm hearing, but I voted (or I will in a min lol)

If I lost my hearing suddenly, I would first find out how much hearing was lost and how much residual hearing I had left, ect. Then, I'd probably probably see if I was a CI candidate or not. If not, I'd learn sign language, and just learn to adapt to my loss.

This actually might've become a reality for me last year. I was given otoxic drugs to fight serious infections. The drugs didn't damage my hearing as far as I know, but the possiblity of that occuring was very real.

Good thread! Makes one think! :thumb:

Btw, I chose #3

I answered on behalf of my son. He prefers no HA, and does not want a CI. He says noise is a distraction for him, and prefers to use visual cues. But that is simply his choice, and the way in which he choses to deal with his deafness. Right for him, but perhaps not for all.

Silence means one misses out a lot of things, and no one can catch every. single. visual cue.
Me, when HAs didn't work for me, I went CI.
