Here in Canada, I don't have any respect for Premiere Stephen Harper as he is not showing being generous or respect to us people but we have to hold our civil tongues about him. I can do that at home here but not on the internet where there is arguing comments with harassment and insulting and calling names. That was not proper. That is not right. **sigh** That was the reason why it was closed down for the time being unless Alex and the mod think they can give another try. But if this goes bad, then there will be permanent close thread just like religion thread. Remember there is two parties or third like Republican, Democrat and Independent. So go easy on the topics in it.

Yup, big problem - most political discussions are usually nonsense like saying Obama is socialist, Obama is dictator, etc.

I agree with this on general principles. I am very involved with religious and less so, political debate elsewhere on the internet. I always take it elsewhere.

If you are concerned about your skills in writing English, just apologize because you are not a native speaker. Only the rudest will pick, and you :giggle:.

I couldn't have said it any better.

The problem is, a lot of people will become so defensive of their opinions, beliefs, moral values or whatnot. It is ok to be on the defensive side, only if the logical aspect is presented. A lot of time, we allow our emotions to take control. This is where the fight begins. It is easier said than done. I know some of us dislike to admit to "lose" the debate or worse, the ego and pride gets bruised.

Sure I dont miss religious but I do miss political threads because i learn so much from each of you but now I am back to sqaure where i used to be. :eek3:

can any mods help contributing to have the political thread back? since it is a very educational discussion rather than cochlear implant thread that has not locked. i don't see it as to why cant the political thread be opened again. cochlear implants threads almost never got locked so.. why can't political threads be opened?

well I guess it's because the problems were not handled quite effectively. the threads were "conveniently" locked up instead of having quibblers/troublemakers dealt with promptly and swiftly.

most of times - mods are not really involved in most threads so it's just easier to lock up a thread after receiving several complaints than to review a lengthy thread and to moderate a thread and control the flow of conversation. I know mod team doesn't get paid to do this job but perhaps it's time to increase the number of mod team with specific "expertise" for certain threads and giving them a more leeway to use ban hammer in order to effectively moderate a thread?

for ie. a certain mod who is actively involved in political threads should focus on moderating political threads while other mod should focus on Deaf/CI/ASL threads.

many locked threads are caused by quibblers/troublemakers using insidious "barely-legal" trolling tactics which make it very difficult for mod team to rectify the problem. I think giving mods a more leeway in using a ban hammer (not following AD's official ban policy) equivalent to sending a bad boy to corner would be better.

this forum has grown huge and maybe a mod team should grow too? just a thought.
 
hmmm -- May I remind you there is an adult section ..... perhaps we can swear and discuss politics there. remember --- we have many young AD'ers here so we have a moral responsibility to them .. Quite often I like to discuss in thee debates of politics or such but there is a limit in "public place" like AD.

When I see a discussion that I do not like or want to participate - I just turn my head .. I really dont care if it never get reported or not. not my issue. I am here to share my wealth of info and ideas. The only thing I report are the spam . period!

However if something gets deleted or locked- then it probably goes against the forum owner what he wants the board to be like and whats it for. You guys also gotta take in account he is responsible for the "content" on this forum. for examaple- if there is a threat of terrorism mentioned by one of our members -- he/she could be arrested or the whole board shut down if your PRIVATE identity is not shared to authorities .. Do you really want that to happen?

lol! true dat! but then.... that rule only applies if you wanna get into her pants or if you're a young person in early 20's.

but I'm an old fart now and I ain't got time chasing girl around with tricks & lines from books and then find out our beliefs are not compatible.

religious and political aren't the same. political have too many different issues that affect the world while religious arent. IMHO
