Either new or old. I don't care because I am interested in it. Do you like it or not. Do you ever want new implant if you still have old one in? If you got new implant and had old one removed.. what's the difference between the old implant and the new implant? :ty:

I am planning get Freedom. Sooo I need keep get my butt moving and find a grant. GRIN!

I have the Freedom.

Er...to clarify there is the actual implant which is in your head and the processor that is outside the body. Which are you talking about?

If you are talking about the implant, then unless there is a compelling reason, your implant is good for life. I have been told due to advances in technology that I may consider getting a new implant in some twenty years to take advantage of it (better quality of sounds, etc). For me personally, I will be reluctant to bother with surgery again when things are going so well for me and why mess with a good thing? The implants are built with a tremendous amount of redundancy and therefore should last forever (er...as long as you are alive... )

The processor on the other hand is a totally different beast. That can be changed at will whenever and for whatever reason. Technology is always marching on and I can't imagine not upgrading the processor over time. I know I most certainly will at some point in the future. When I do, it will continue to be Cochlear (one really doesn't have much of choice unless one changes the implant from one company's to another's)

I am in the process of getting CIs...but I am considering Freedom for 4 reasons:
No recalls
Water resistant (what if I jump in the shower and forget to take my CIs off?)
MRI compatible
Most channels/electrodes (am I correct?)

Girlie I know the feeling... Im doing the same thing as you are.. But hey keep searching.... Im searching my ass off!!!!! lmao! But we both will eventually get one.....:fingersx:

whats freedom?? Body Worn???

The 22 electrodes are more then on the AB I believe. But I 'think' (I know that can be dangerous, lol) that both the AB and Cochlear have the capablity to be programmed to the 120 channels. at least that's the way I understood it from my audiologist when choosing the implant. My guess is that while they have the capability to possibly program them to 120 channels a persons brain my not be that adaptable....mine actually prefers to run at the slowest hrtz the freedom can be programmed at, not sure how it'd take to 120 channel technology. :) and actually the 20 electrodes (had to ture 21 and 22 off) I use give me good speech and it's better then the HA's so I'm not complianing. :)

As for water resistance, supposedly AB is water resistant but they don't advertise that, or so I read somewhere, makes sense tho since most HA's are waterrisistant why would the CI's be?

I have the Freedom. :)

Yeah, my audiologist today told me that BOTH the Freedom and AB are water resistant. I was a bit surprised about the AB...now that you just said this, I understand heh.

Lillys dad had told me that Lilly was able to run through a water sprinkler with her CI on (but I forget which one she has -- I think Freedom because my grandson has the same thing) -- correct me if I am wrong Lillys dad (and he had said that the other parents had surprised reactions to seeing Lilly still wearing her CI while they took them off their children)

Apparently I heard the reason AB don't advertise it is because there is some process that you have to go through to prove "water resistance" before you can legally advertise it as "water resistent." Cochlear has done this but AB haven't - Boult can you correct me if I am wrong?

Ah I see. But why hasn't AB gone through that process?

I have Nucleus 24 but damn... I want re-implant new Freedom... :(
