Yeah, years ago back, when I was a student at GMU, I was spied by campus through webcam. I put a sticker on the cam area, "I Voted"

But criminals... that's new, Maybe i should cover with something on it.

good idea, i ll put the purrfect sticker on it. if i find a kitty sticker then i d be thrilled!

Better close your computer or put black tape or something on webcam in your bedroom before changing clothes or naked. :naughty:

Yea, nothing is security fool-proof. Nobody believes me. Just got off from press though media that no security software can stop any hackers from break in. They can stop up to only 44% cases where 56% will fail. This includes corporate computer system, home is much weaker.

So, never never assume that after install all of the security stuff in your computer that it is fool-proof.

This is the main reason why I hate videophone on computer, and text relay service. Best is stand alone VP equipment like Ntouch VP or VP-200 because they do have security in it which is far better than on computer or smartphone. OFC not 100% secured but the advantage of stand alone is that it contains almost nothing, that is the point where hackers may already break in VP-200 or Ntouch and there is nothing as if its empty room. They usually won't stay long and move on. I think VP on smartphone is the worst when it comes to security.

No, best is never put VP in bedroom! Have seen enough already and I do not know why many Deafies got VP in bedroom.

I usually don't buy device with webcam built in (except smartphone/tablet). It's not intentional, I just prefer to use USB HD webcam with good quality.
I always unplug mine whenever I am not using it.

One of my ex co-workers showed me this trojan he made and put it into torrents files and people who downloaded and installed it were infected. He could watch people's computer screens, several of them were on webcamera chatting and stuff, some were just surfing on the web.

Should select video privacy of nTouch on computer.

Crazy stuff. Tape over the webcam on laptops.

You might not like ugly tape. You may buy webcam covers.

camJAMR Webcam Covers. Protect Your Privacy With Style.

They specialize in reusable and removable webcam covers. There are also tons of articles about webcam hacking.

You can like them on Facebook or Twitter @camJAMR for a chance to win a free pack of your choice. They are coming out with 8 new designs also. Including one for breast cancer, and one for support the troops

Check them out, there's no really no sure way to know if your computer/tablet/phone is safe or not. But if you have a camJAMR webcam cover - they will never be able to spy on you again...

Cheers.

It occurs to me that they'd be able to activate the microphone, too. Listen in on people's conversations, etc.

Yep... Cyber criminals are going to be the world's biggest problem in the future. These aren't just ordinary crooks looking to make a quick steal, these are people who are calculated and knowing their target audience, what they expect to get and what they intend to use from the information.

The biggest problem of all? Cybercrime knows no boundaries. Anti-cybercrime is also hindered by the jurisdiction of the local justice. There's virtually no way we're going to be able to prosecute some hacker we find from Iran.

I'm guessing there will have to be international cooperation to prosecute these criminals.

Yay, globalism!

We been hearing many reports about this. We have one person who is paranoid about webcam and she doesn't trust it at all. What I recomended is to get a 3x5 card and cut out about the size of a quarter and tape one end of the sheet and tape other end over the cam. This will become a little card lid and easily to flip it over the cam to open it when using it. When done, just flip it back over to cover the len. It's like a little white door.

Now for people worry about audio transmission, you can block the firewall port so audio won't pass thru it. You have to look it up what port number for specific manufacture's audio system, I believe it's port 6550. This is sure safe way regardless if you forgot to turn off the computer (or unplug usb webcam port).

Should select video privacy of nTouch on computer.

it works only if .....

well - lets just say if the software is updated and the option to auto off privacy is set -- well lets me just say ... nuff said.

I dont think that will happen... US government hire their own hacker citizens to undermine other governments. I'm pretty sure EU, Russian Federation, and People's Republic of China are doing the same thing.

I know a guy who was jailed but then was hired immediately for his proficient skills.

But globalism, yes.... GLOBAL CYBERWAR! WHOOO!
