Hi everyone :wave:

As I believe I stated before in my introduction I am hearing. However growing up in my earlier school years (ages 8 to 11 or so) I had several severe ear infections. I was always put at the front of the class room, and frankly never did so great at school, not because I didn't want to but I feel maybe because I had hearing difficulties ? I've always had to listen very intently to others for as long as I can remember, but over the past 6 years it seems that it's getting a bit harder to hear than normal. Six years ago I had a Brain Tumor on the left side of my brain requiring extensive surgery and recuperation while on active duty in the Army. However I don't think it's related.... Anyways my question is this; should I go to an audiologist and get tested ? Would it be helpful do you all think ? :ty: Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Sure you should get tested, absolutely. Once you will know for sure whether or not there is any hearing loss, you will sleep like a baby.

I hope there isn't any,
but if there is, this forum is a vast vat of knowledge how to handle a hearing loss.

Good luck, and please let us know what were the results of you audiogram!

I sure will let you all know. To be honest, I really fell in love with ASL and the entire culture from what I've read so far. Even if there isn't anything different with my hearing I am already far too interested and in love with the language to let it go.

I know it's been a coon's age since I've made any posts but I recently just got the results. While I've never had an audiogram (ever) and I'm not real sure if it was even an audiogram or not. My experience at the Vet Center was pretty bad to be honest :(. I went in on a Friday afternoon, was treated quickly because my primary care doctor put in the consult w/ the notes of the issues I've been having and the fast onset etc. I went in to a small room and put on head phones; was asked to hit the button if I heard sounds. I did just that. Wasn't very long it seemed like 10 minutes at most. Again I've no experience with any of this. Was told by the technician that I am in the Normal range but I was never shown the results. Told I'd be re-tested in 2 years. I can't help but feel I was given a quick, easy out for the sake of their friday evening. No doctors or audiologists; should I request another consult or just deal ?
 
Hi Expression! My name is Brian. I am an Army veteran, and have been to the VA for my hearing. I just received my hearing aids last Thursday. Did you go to a VA hospital for your audiogram, or was it given at your local clinic by your primary care doctor? I was referred to see an audiologist at the hospital. Testing took about 20-30 minutes, and the audiologist gave me a print out of my audiogram. I was then referred to an ENT, because my loss is conductive. After the ENT exam, I was told I would need surgery, but could use hearing aids if I desired. It was my choice. I would call the office where you had your audiogram, and request a copy for your own records. They cannot refuse to give you a copy. And if you were not seen by an audiologist, you need to have that scheduled. A primary care doctor is not a specialist. An audiologist is.
 
Nice to meet you Brian; thanks for the reply much appreciated. Was seen entirely by what I'm sure was just a Tech and no audiologist; so I'll call to get an appointment when I get back in town. I did go to a VA hospital and was told it was a hearing test, they did not say the word audiogram but I think that's essentially what it was. I keep getting the impression by several others that there isn't any sort of issue; just seems like there is something off and it does bother me that I don't know. I know many on this forum have been where I am. Thanks again Brian!
