I wanted to warn you that the new design free home edition AVAST Anti-Virus is causing BSOD "Blue Screen Of Death" on the P3 mini 10 Dell netbook.

I was so puzzle why my mini 10 was getting BSOD until I pinpoint to AVAST as a suspect and removed AVAST now no more BSOD .. Phew ...

Hope that was cause of BSOD on my netbook.

.

That one is bad. I removed it from a young lady's mini hp this past weekend. It was a horror.

If you have McAffee I think you should remove it first. Best check to be sure.

Yeah McAffee was the first thing I removed when I got my P3 Mini 10.

So far it seem to like the WIndows Security Essentials and not crashing the mini 10.

I had to send my P3 mini 10 back because of a dark bad webcam and gotten a refubished mini 10 back from Purple.

I hope it not someone elses replacement heh with BSOD problem.

.

Not a repost ....

They are talking about McAffee and running P3

I am talking about new AVAST! and I was not running P3 at all. It just rebooted then BOOM! crashed after I install AVAST!

AVAST! had been redesigned and now have a look interface so it doesn't work on mini 10 no more.

Old AVAST work on netbook with no problem.

Old AVAST - Blue ball icon

New AVAST - Yellow ball icon.

Try reading and comparing posts before screaming repost next time :D

Not just MCA, It can happen to ANY anti-virus that will cause.

I believe that anti-virus/security and P3 use same time that eat up a RAM till a RAM ran out then BSOD.

I believe you don't read my post. :eek3:

Some new version of anti-virus eat more RAM than old version.

Of course you have heard of the newest malware that is so bad that is a virus? It mimics windows security. It is a very bad problem. Avast, based in Czechoslovakia, has even put out an alert about this. Last read, the Avast company has updated the software to kill/cure/remove this nasty bug. Please see.
Doing so may have caused the program to incorrectly tag some programs. See the update news here.

They were posting about running anti-virus and P3 "at the same time" that was crashing this poster's netbook.

I have not yet to start or run P3 but still crashed the mini 10 when I install the new AVAST.

My point of the post was "Do not install NEW AVAST!"

It is NOT about running anti-virus and P3 at the same time because I ran anti-virus and P3 before with no problems and no crashes.

Now I am running new Windows Security Esstinals anti virus and I already tested it with P3 so far seem to be ok and no crashes yet.

You scream repost and pointed to a poster issue of running anti-virus and P3 at the same time which crashed the mini 10 which had nothing to do with this post.

Mcafee, Norton, Trend Micro, Avast all all avoidable. I would recommended Windows Security Essentials Windows Security Essentials & The home of Spybot-S&D!

Wow. I now learn about bad AVAST anti-virus. I always help customers to remove out McAfee to install free MS Security Esstinals anti virus into thier P3 netbook when working for Purple to set up their netbooks. I never heard them to have problem with BSOD. You too, TechBill :fingersx:

Anyone with Windows Security Esstinals does not start up when reboot Netbook?

I had to start mine everytime I reboot the Netbook but it won't start up during boot time.

I dont get it. I am huge fan of Avast anti-virus. Hell I installed it 4 laptops and 2 computers. P3 netbook also have Avast antivirus(the old version with blue ball) Sadly, I sold it for $250 dollars and never have a chance to install avast 5.0 on p3 netbook. Also Some people said that avast devleoped new interface so I might think all P3 netbook' GMA(Graphic Media Accelerator) driver have to be updated.

if some people want a link to update their p3 netbook GMA(Graphic Media Accelearator) driver there*Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 500 Driver for Windows XP* 32 (zip) this update is new as last month
I suggest you try to update first and then install avast anti-virus
