Wanna pay $100 per year to keep MS Office Alive?

Wow.

Well, I understand the need for a "seamless" experience between devices. Let's face it, many have more than one device. I've got my work computer, my home laptop, my iPhone, and my iPad.

I found one quick fix for working on documents between work and out-on-the-road if I didn't have my laptop with me. It's called iPages. It works on my iPhone and iPad. It was a $9.99 app download, but I found it worth it. It saves files to MSWord for work.

So .. so far, I have my work, at-home and on-the-road major needs met. I can't do my graphic design work on my iPhone or iPad, but I don't want to anyway.

I can see this working because a lot of people can't afford the huge costs of MS Office so it makes sense to do a sort of "payment" plan.

Not sure if the article stated that $100 a year for Office 365 or Office 2013...

Adobe already have their own subscription for their software (i.e. Photoshop CS6 for $30 a month) - but comparing with MS Office at $8.33 a month.

Its for Office 365, and nope ain't gonna shell out 100 dollars a year. I got two licenses for MAC and it is enough and beats that deal anyway.

Yeah it's for 365. It's cuz it is cloud computing based office, I guess part of the fee is they want you to pay for bandwith/storage?

I'm not interested in clouding my office docs, I'd rather prefer 2013. You can get 2013 for $10 if you have an accepted work email for a program.

$100 a year.... only $8.33 a month... which is roughly similar as Netflix - $7.99/month.

Why not use Open Office which is a real nice and FREE open source?

But it's for every year, right? And it will probably go up each year.

I don't pay for Netflix either, so I don't need any more expenses.

My Office 2010 cost way under $100 for three computers, and I've used it for much more than one year.

Some of us still have to pinch pennies. ;)

This looks like another increment on the digital divide.

Yeah, the only problem is:

8:00 am: the meeting started, 50 Million dollars proposal, man standing in front of his laptop getting ready to load his PowerPoint in front all the high end exec and investors

Man with his laptop: waiting for PP to load and suddenly the error message popped up on his large screen said: "Unable to load PowerPoint because you didn't pay your bill!!"
Man with his laptop: EEEEEEAAAAAAYYYYYHHHHHHHaaarrrrrrrrggggg!!!!!!

Exec and investors: starting to closed their notebooks and laptops. Ready to stand up and begin to walk out of the conference room.

One of investor: This is sucks....

That's a moot point because you don't want to do business with people who aren't reliable enough to pay $100 a year.

TBH, anyone who doesn't test any presentation of any kind prior to going up in front of their audience shouldn't be surprised if people walk out when it doesn't work.

Keep in mind that Office 2010 still costs well above $200 depending on where you got it from. Office upgrades will be much more integrated now, since a lot of it happens seamlessly. And, most importantly, the $100 deal allows you to use it on up to 5 different computers, INCLUDING Macs. So you've got your whole family covered with Office, completely legal, for less than two boxes of cereal a month. It sounds like Office isn't worth actual money for some, but we've got to adjust to the time and realize how much work goes into such a product and how much work we're able to get done with it. Doesn't apply for everyone, use Wordpad or Open Office, it's free, it's doing everything you need in a non-professional environment.

Finally, I tried 365 and I hate it so much.

What's if internet or NO WIFI area. No way to open outlook for check old email. I like Office 2007 Office that allow you open old email then type down then click reply and it will reply once reconnect internet itself.

365,You have to waiting till reconnect internet which sucks.

That's big suck. I used office 2013 and I like it better. New graphs and chart designs. Few changes except GUI and smoother.

I'm not a Micro$oft guy myself. The last time I had a Windows computer was in seventh grade. Then I taught myself and built computer and installed Linux operating system (Red Hat 7) around the same time. I've used linux ever since middle school, high school, college, and until recently I decided to be a proud Mac user :) (since linux/Mac is similar, especially the UNIX kernel).

Yeah, I liked that program. StarOffice is also pretty good, not sure if it's no longer in usage. heh :) Brings back good memory

not so fun with linux and alikes when one must grep through compressed zipfiles for recovering odt's. :)

Gotta hand it to MS on that one, their original office software is still uncontested to date. Part of it pays to have income on it, though.

Oh yes, it's not a great design for mobile users.

Nice, I use Office 2011 for our OSX and love them and GUI looks better graphic than Windows.
