An apartment building in Middletown, designed for the hearing impaired, already has a waiting list.

And the building doesn't open until July.

The 16-apartments feature paging devices, vibrating alarms, and doorbells that are hooked to personal computers.

The city's housing authority built the complex with federal public-housing money.

To qualify, an applicant must be either elderly or have a sensory impairment, with a maximum annual household income of less than $42,000.

So far, 26 people are on a waiting list for the one and two-bedroom apartments.

Apartments for Deaf

I would love to know more about apartments for Deaf around the country.

I used to manage Columbus Colony Housing in Columbus Ohio from 1980 to 1982. It was an experience. It was HUD financed and a benefit for the Deaf community. It used Section 8 and 202 HUD financing.

I am not sure of updates since I do not read the Federal Register as it tells you when or what the funds are available for such housing projects.

I am sure there are more Deaf apartments like Chicago, NYC and others. It would be nice to know how they are progressing.

I also used to manage the ill-fated Foxwell Memorial Apartments in Baltimore, MD from 1983 to 1984. It was screwed by the man who has Jim Jones mentality... namely Bud Foxwell.

There is also Pilgrim Towers in LA....

more?
