Patients in Calderdale will no longer have to wait for hearing aids.

More than 1,109 people were waiting for hearing aid tests and upgrades at Calderdale Royal Hospital last April. Some patients had been waiting for up to three years.

But last month all of them had been given appointments and will be seen by the end of March.

Extra clinics were opened and new digital hearing aids were bought using money from the Yorkshire and Humber Strategic Health Authority to bring about the cuts.

New patients will now been seen within 11 weeks. The Government target is 13 weeks.

Janet Jackson, senior chief audiologist at Calderdale Royal Hospital, said: "The extra work our staff have put in has brought excellent results and we are pleased that a long wait has finally come to an end for so many people."

The trust has also slashed audiology waits at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. The list has dropped from 858 last April to 18, who will all be seen by the month end.

Isn't it possible to buy an aid in USA? Here in Latvia none gives us a digital hearing aid for free. We need to buy it for 2500$ each. For some people it is more than half of the year incomes. Are your people the same poor?
