Votes fall short of passage on 2 spending bills; deaf school, natural resources bills held up - WREG
The House came up short on votes on two appropriations bills after House Minority Leader John Burris objected to provisions in the budgets for the Arkansas School for the Deaf and the Natural Resources Commission.
Burris tried on Tuesday to have the bills referred back to the Joint Budget Committee for further discussion both of those attempts failed.
Budget Committee co-Chairman Rep. Kathy Webb says both bills will be back on the House calendar on Wednesday. Webb, a Democrat, says she'll continue to work with House members and answer questions about spending bills.
Democratic Rep. Buddy Lovell of Marked Tree complained that members are arguing over "pennies."
