Voice over ip? baby dies because ip wont call 911

Well, problem is that many of you don't really understand how IP really works. Believe me, IP address frequently changes! That is the problem here, RARELY any ISP would be willing to give Static IP (IP address that never changes) all due to $$$$, and business potentials too. When ISP gives static IP address, then there is greater chance that this customer would run business off from their system. , PLUS the available pool of IP is limited, so that is another reason why IP address tend to change, so that other user dials in or connects in they get ip assigned then when this user logs off, then IP address becomes available for grabs by next log in user. Thus less need for ISP to buy more IP address in pool. Yes it is EXPENSIVE! I am not on ISP's side. I happen to know how they work. I almost started business as ISP. As for Cell phone, and Sidekick. they already assigned specific address or number thus easier for database to trace back to your device, that is ALOT different than IP itself.

I was afraid that someone was vandalizing my house and I did eventually had to call 911 in my small town last month, they did answer it but was not that quite familiar with tty method...like "ga" ...not so good in case of emergency. ugh.

i think no matter where you are, you have the rights to call 911 like cellphone can call like umm 711 or was it 411? whatever. why can't ip too?

Another problem with VoIP tracing is that you CAN take your VoIP modem to ANYWHERE you want and hook up to ANY internet access. How can 911 trace you? It is LIKELY that if you had VoIP and you were in NYC, and you want to visit your friends in Los Angeles, so you decided to bring that VoIP modem and fly to LA, then plug that in your friend's network. Viola! all your calls goes to Los Angeles instead! Will you REPORT to your VoIP provider where you are? I really DOUBT it! Also that ISP you connected with in LA does not even have the faintest idea who you are. There is no way ISP can find out. Plus if you did actually call 911 though your VoIP modem, and it will go to NYC 911 dispatcher and it would cause even more confusing. On other hand OFC it can happen with cell phone but because it has same phone number 911 dispatcher will be able to recongize your antenna location then switch to 911 dispatcher of THAT location.
