*UPDATE #2: via Erickson and Jesse Byrnes, this is advice the University of Colorado gives to women to repel attackers. If an attacker isn’t grossed out enough over the prospect of raping/beating/murdering a woman, it’s doubtful that any of this will do the trick:

Be realistic about your ability to protect yourself.
Your instinct may be to scream, go ahead! It may startle your attacker and give you an opportunity to run away.
Kick off your shoes if you have time and can’t run in them.
Don’t take time to look back; just get away.
If your life is in danger, passive resistance may be your best defense.
Tell your attacker that you have a disease or are menstruating.
Vomiting or urinating may also convince the attacker to leave you alone.
Yelling, hitting or biting may give you a chance to escape, do it!
Understand that some actions on your part might lead to more harm.
Remember, every emergency situation is different. Only you can decide which action is most appropriate.

Colorado Democrat: Women Don’t Need Guns If They ‘Feel Like They’re Going To Be Raped’ *UPDATED | RedState

This list is very similar to dozens I have seen. Why this one? What is your point? Is it the title with the words "Democrats" tied together with "don't need guns" your point??

See the gray box above. That is my point. :cool2:

Rape is a horrible crime....so many women never really get over it.

And the way I see it...if the culprit is wearing a mask to hide his identity, then you have a better chance of surviving the rape and not being killed.....So many rapes end up with murder because the woman has seen his face and can identify them.....

And always be aware of ur surroundings....never pick up a strange man...always go out at night in 2's...and never position urself in a spot where you could be attacked and there is no one around you to help.....And always carry pepper spray or mace, even a small knife for protection.

And I've always read that whenever you are cornored and there is no way to escape....then cooperate and assure ur attacker that you will not tell anyone....all at the same time...if you see a way to escape or hurt your attacker enough that you are able to run, then run....and of course scream...do anything you can to make loud noises....and if by chance you can go for his eyes...do so!...Stick ur fingers in is eyes as hard as you can...nevermind the blood...just hurt the man as much as you can go get away.

Self-defense courses are good....but again, a woman is no match for a man....

Pepper spray is a better option than everything listed by the University.

If they want to be victims that's fine but as far as I'm concerned telling other people they have to be victims is immoral. This "if you defend yourself blood will run in the streets" type argument is getting really old.

Being shot should be an occupational hazard of any violent criminal including rapists.

ok... but how do you do all these things while the criminal is punching you and choking you?
Rape isn't a problem with lust: It's completely about controlling others.
It's too bad some people have mental problems, but for now I think the best thing to do is to avoid a bad situation if possible. (stick to populated roads, take different routes home, travel with somebody.. etc)

Always the best idea for sure. Though even when you do your best some times trouble will find you anyway. Best to have a plan for that as well.

Many rapes are committed in homes and apartments....breaking in....and a woman living alone (as many of them do) are prone to rapes.....If sleeping with a gun under the pillow, mace or pepper spray, even a knife would help....

I keep my doors double-locked and the windows locked also, have a doggie....and I feel pretty safe where I live, but I never say "never"...it could happen to me again.

Jamming anyone in the eyes is very painful, and the man would surely let go, giving you some time to escape, grab ur weapon or anything you could get ur hands on, such as a Lamp....

Umm, because I saw this list and thought......"that would make an interesting thread." No one is forcing you to participate. :)
Interesting? Rape prevention?

I realize that it might go better if I avoid all of your threads. I just can't bring myself to do it. Similar to all of those witty comments over there in pscho-land; I find myself drawn to read.

You see, I think you were actually using this thread to bash the gun control advocates. The source you quoted says it all. THAT was your reason. I figured you would dance around it. No reason to change your spots.
