Proposal To Allow Shooting of Stray Cats In Wisconsin
Monday, March 07, 2005, 7:58 a.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - The fur is going to fly when cat lovers hear about Mark Smith's idea. The Wisconsin hunter and firefighter wants stray cats classified as an ``unprotected species'' that could be shot by anyone with a small-game license.

His proposal will be placed before hunters at the Wisconsin Conservation Congress next month. The congress advises state officials on natural resource issues.

Smith says free-roaming cats are an invasive species that attack wild birds. But cat lover Ted O'Donnell is horrified. He's the owner of a pet supply store and has set up a Web site to fight the idea -- www.dontshootthecat.com.

No, no, no, absolutely not a good idea!

Plus, let's remember that cats are meat eaters and it's in their nature to eat birds. Like it or not, but birds are lower on the food chain.

Also, what if some of these cats are not stray at all? Many people allow their cats to go outside.

I think shooting cats should be among the lists you can be arrested for animal creulty. If i hear anyone shoot cats im gonna shoot a bald eagle.

That is absoutely FORBIDDEN!!!!!!!! NO hunter should be allowed to shoot poor stray cats! Like previous posts, cats eats meats to keep things balanced also and who knows if some owners allow their cats to roam... what if they shot a cat that has a collar?!?!?! Kittens? I think not!!! Absoutely NOT!!!!

COME ON THE CATS ARE NOT TOYS TO BE SHOOTING AT! PEOPLE WHO SHOOTS CATS THEY ARE REALLY SICKO! BEC I LOVES CAT WHICH I HAVE 3 OF THEM...I CAN NOT BEAR TO SEE CATS SUFFERING AND HURT! I EVEN ALWAYS WATCHES ANIMAL PLANTS WITH ANIMAL COPS ALL TIMES I STILL EVEN CRIED TO SEE VET HAVE TO PUT CATS SLEEP IT'S JUST A TV PROGRAM I STILL CREID! OH WELL BEC I LOVES CAT TOO MUCH!
PLEASE REORT TO POLICE OR STATE POLICE ABOUT THAT BEC THERE ARE ANIMAL CRUELY LAWS OUT THERE!!
THANKS AND HAVE A GOOD DAY!...TERRI :asshole:

It's sad, though....it's due to population control, there is simply too many stray cats out there killing too many song birds. Ever hear of shooting prairie dogs? There is like 400 million of them in 25,000 square miles, too many of them, again due to population control. There is nothing we can do about it. You guys should go and save a stray cat. ;)

I think the overwhelming numbers of strays are due to irresponsible people and I am sure this eradication program was set up by a county or a city for reasons of health, etc. There has to be a reason for this and it is prolly legal. Its the owners who are irresponsible and cause this to happen; it wasn't just some wacko who decided, "Hey, let's go kill some cats".

This guy must be out of his mind  , he aren't killing no cats and beside cats are not toys that you can shoot around for heaven sakes....

I bet his bottom butt that he will be charge with animal cruel!! Good luck in prison dude :bye:

Overwhelming strays, Tousi?
I thought an armadillo stampede was overwhelming, dang.

That's what happen when u introduce an animal isn't native to North America. They would screw up the population control and food chain that was supposed to be. Since, there aren't many enemies that song bird have in the wild, white people took over US and the population of enemies are dwindling to control population of animals that grow too fast and cause diseases, destroying vegetation, etc. Song birds are responsible to keep insect population under control, less birds mean too much insect population growing out of control. It's part of nature. People do not know how to control animal population properly as animals can do.

For example, wolves are responsible for deer population control. Without the wolves, the deer population would grow out of control and eat all the vegetation and they would go hungry when they run out of food for deer to eat.

There aren't enough preys to keep Prairie dog population under control so instead humans shoot them down to keep it under control, once again there's about 400 million praire dogs in the wild in only 25,000 square miles of land covered.

So anyone get the lead? It should make sense! :)

That automatically puts you in the minority, does't it? You are being un-American.
Yeah, watch what you are saying, boy.

License needed?

I think people should take a class or get a license before
they adopt a pet.

Too many people pick something up, get bored with it,
and throw it out.

Then we end up with stray cats and dogs trying to survive
out on the streets.

And wackos who want to shoot cats~

Overwhelmed with cats,
Why don't they shoot vets? They are strays too.
Shame on Bush.
I am respectfully referring to some othe homeless people I meet.
They know.
