Looks like pretty soon we will no longer be able to enter Canada (or anywhere outside the USA) with just drivers' licenses or birth certificates.

I wonder how far off it is that we guard the borders not to keep people from entering, but to prevent us from leaving?
Sighhhh....

I consider this so laughable, especially in the light of how much of a seive our border to the south is! Jeezzzzz!

"or other government issued secure documents" They say.

Yup, read that as meaning government goons and similar thieves.
One part of the article chilled me, though---"The tighter measures are a consequence of the terrorist attacks in the United States on Sept. 11, 2001, and the county's effort to screen out 'people who want to come in and hurt us,' said Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice."----Sounds like they will be selective in who gets in, passport or not, and I am wondering just what the process of "selection" would entail, what the requirements for entry into the USA would be, etc.
Personally I wouldn't worry about rabid Canadians---it is the steady, heavy flow of illegal aliens crossing the border practically unchecked that concerns me the most.

I believe the southern border is included. All entry and exit, U.S. citizen or not.

Well, they have not done nearly the job of stemming the flow from the south to the north; what makes us think that taking on an increased load for the other way is gonna get anything done?

Yes I know about that it was in newspaper other day i was like DAMN beause i always go to canada in summer to walk there and look around now i have to got passport first oh well I understand why they do that

I really don't know. There has been rumor that the 911 terrs came in through Canada. They caught a terr in a car loaded with explosives trying to cross in '99. He was headed for the L.A. airport from what I read.

Well, I read that 911 was engineered by own own people. :)
But never mind that for now.
Anyway, the border patrols are a joke along the Mexican border, and over 500 US citizens have volunteered to take part in the Minutemen Project in which they patrol the Arizona/Mexico border. Bush and Co. are squawking loudly about this, which goes to show you whose side they are really on.

I've read accounts of cross border incursions by Mexican army patrols too and their firing at our border patrol. They laid it off to the border being poorly marked. So far, from what I've seen, the minutemen are doing a good job of peacful surveylance and notifying INS when they spot illegals. It is not the first time in our history where citizens volunteered to guard our borders. I just wish it weren't needed. The Mexican government even gives them comic book style guide books on how to enter and stay hidden from patrols and INS.
