Two deaf and mute students sign up for special course | Daily Express Newspaper Online, Sabah, Malaysia.

Only two deaf and mute students enrolled for a special hospitality programme offered by the Polytechnic Kota Kinabalu (PKK) for the disabled at the commencement of its July intake registration, Tuesday.

The first higher learning institution to offer such a course in Sabah, the PKK is however optimistic that more such students will come forward and sign up for the Foundation programme in Hospitality (Hotel and Catering).

PKK Director, Mustafar Kamar Ujang, said they expect more students to turn up, adding they are confident at least 15 students will start the next class on July 10.

"We are still waiting for more students to come forward because the registration is open until Friday," he said.

PKK also has introduced a new foundation course for graduates from the Community College, for the July intake.

The foundation course is a six-month programme to prepare them to continue their studies at diploma level.

For this session, a total of 966 students are expected to register and as of 3pm Tuesday, 860 had signed up for the various courses offered by PKK.

It is also offering these courses, but on a part-time basis, for working adults.
