A trial began today for a college teacher accused of raping his deaf student.

Sign language instructor Roger Wilkins of Lehi pleaded not guilty to sex abuse, rape and sodomy charges.

His 18- year- old student claims he raped her while while she lived with his family last May. She says she told Wilkins "no" in sign language, but he assaulted her anyway.

The trial should last through Friday.

Wilkins was convicted of molesting two boys in 1994, during a summer camp for deaf children.
 
See? It happens in mainstream sittuions too!
Some people make it sound like dhh students are safe from sexual exploitation in the mainstream, but the fact of the matter is that dhh mainstreamed kids can be just as much at risk. That's b/c the perpetrators tend to go after the kids who are loners, and many if not most mainstreamed dhh kids are incredibly lonely. Matter of fact, I wonder exactly HOW they calculated sex explotation risk factors? Yes, res school kids are at risk for sexual abuse, but not any more then hearies attending a boarding school.
 
Actually it can happen anywhere, any schools, I don't believe any schools are safe.....

It's sad to hear another child being raped by a teacher....
 
some stranger who have sick in their mind for rape young kids or adults.. that so sicko!
 
this guy was allready convicted once why in gods' name was he allowed with in 100 miles of another cild?

you guys need to pay attention! 18 is an adult!!! the girl should have bit ,punched, kicked and thrown things..is she did not fight back , she let it happen. i hate rapist, but i hate people who just give up more.

she has the mentle capasity of a 12 year old she was taken atvantage of .
 
wow teacher is a rapist... :jaw:... Thank God that they put him jail because he deserve it!!!!!!!!!!
 
Personally, you all do not know the whole story. In no way am I defending anyone of the both sides, but I feel that both did it 50/50. I know the girl, and I can't really say anything great about that girl. I think you all need to get a life and stop judging other people. Only God can do that.
 
Well I think it's normal for the people to judge where the TV, newspapers, radio etc. spread out to. Example about murders, crimes, abuses, war, etc.

It proves that 2 schoolboys were abused by him... I was like :eek: at first when I know that she is "18" years old until I found out that her mental level like 12 years old.
 
This girl was crazy after me, and would not believe that I was gay. She was a pain in the ass.
