It's fiction. It would be cool if it was real.

Cool! I recieved a email about the tree octopus from a close friend, and they said it was an Internet hoax.
 
HAHAHA I sent this to my friend and had her going for a while.... she's afraid of octopuses... THANK YOU OINK FOR SUPPLYING ME WITH 30 MINUTES OF POWER!!!

I had a friend that was afraid of bats , but unless you're a deep sea diver you'll never come face to face with an octopus . I think that was a mean trick to play on your friend.
 
Someone sure put in a lot of time and effort. Excellent creativity.
It would not surprise me to see an octopus in the lower branches of a tree that hung over the water.
