What do you guys do when your tinnitus gets extremely loud and obnoxious that it drives you out of your mind? UGH I hate tinnitus and wish it would go away!

I try focusing on other things, other sounds. If that doesnt work I go to bed and try and sleep. lol

I don't have any suggestions (except for sleep or listening to music with headphones -- both work for me :)), but wanted to let you know you're not alone. I have bilateral tinnitus (which started after my two CI surgeries) and sometimes it can really be impossible to ignore.

I'm patiently waiting for a cure... :)

today is a bad day for me. I had to call into work because I just cant stand it. I just need to listen to my MP3 player and do nothing

RDC_girl,

I'm sorry to hear that. (No pun intended) :( What does your tinnitus sound like? I used to hear 7 different sounds that would change from one to another. Now my tinnitus is limited to high pitched beeps, high/medium/low tones and an ocean/whooshing sound.

oh but I had my hearing aid OFF last night due to a sore ear. so I couldn't make noise. and it was 3 in the morning and I didn't want to wake anyone else up.

I would choose to go to a crowded places such as parks and markets or watching a movie or program . Fortunately I don't have much problem with tinnitus when I wear my has.

This is what I hear eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee It is a high pitched squeal

You poor thing. When I take my CI off I get a sort of a soft roaring sound but the eeeeeee would drive me nuts.

My audiologist is also a specialist tinnitus therapist. I wonder if you can find an audie around where you live who can suggest some options for you to try either with masking or with relaxation techniques. Do you wear hearing aids? It could be that if they are adjusted that it might go over the tinnitus? Tinnitus thrives in silent conditions, especially if at one time you were used to hearing at better levels.

thats wat i get an eee sound too/ sumtimes high pitched doorbell sounds lol..im hoping for my ha to help aleviate the tinnitus a bit..now i use a masker at nite (i like wave sounds best) and fall asleep watching tv...just isnt working well at the moment

Yikes! And I thought my tinnitus was difficult to live with!

The Audiologist here sucks! I went to get my hearing tested and she basically said I was faking. She said I should be able to hear the beeps. I told her that all I could hear was eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee so I lied on my hearing test just to leave her office.

I have an appointment with an ENT in July hoping he can help me out a little

That's really unprofessional. It sounds like she isn't taking you seriously and isn't trained on how to deal with clients with tinnitus. When I first had my CI activated, my audiologist and I worked together on a trust relationship and when we were trying to determine the softest sounds she let me look at the screen so that I could see the light flashing every time she made a sound. I could then separate the sound away from the tinnitus and say whether or not I had heard it.

I would ask the ENT if he/she can recommend an audiologist who is familiar with tinnitus.

I am not excited for my ENT appointment. I am kinda scared and I dont know why. I have convinced my friend to come with me. I am such a chicken lol

Turn it OFF

It's sad to know that there are so many of out there that have this unbearable problem that there is no CURE for. I have had this constant noise in my head for over 12 years. For those of you who can remember when you were younger and we all watch the old vacuum tv's. When you first turned it on you could hear a high pitch sound, which most of you say sounds like: eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
Well that is what I hear from the time I open my eyes in the morning until I fall asleep at night. One thing I do is run a fan while I go to bed, this not only moves the air around but also gives you something else to listen to while trying to sleep. Also if anyone is interested there is a website you can go to that deals with this problem and either click on the link or copy and pasted it to the address bar. It is the for the American Tinnitus Association.

American Tinnitus Association | About Tinnitus | American Tinnitus Association - Help for Ringing in the Ears

P.S. try using a fan at night to sleep with it does help me out some.

One doctor told me that niacin vitamins may help. I tried it and gave me upset stomach.

I know some people who have taken ginkgo biloba to relieve their tinnitus.

When it gets really loud or if I need to sleep, I use something that makes white noise to mask it a little.
