Gatorade drops Tiger Woods as spokesperson - Sports Biz- msnbc.com

FOXNews.com - AT&T Drops Tiger Woods From Sponsorship Agreement

Accenture drops Tiger Woods: 'No longer the right rep' - ESPN

Anybody notice the double standard between the way these two are being treated? They both committed the same act (adultery) with multiple partners.

Tiger is a guy that stayed away from controversial comments and generally kept to himself. After the fact he went to rehab and took an extended break to consider his actions. Yet he has lost most of his large sponsors and a great deal of his fan base. His generous foundation is taking a hit as well. It is expected that he will face the wrath of womens groups when and if he does return. And he is already having to deal with feminist Gloria Allred.

On the other hand, Dave has made a living at the expense of others. He made an on air announcement but it was more an effort to out his extortionist than a true public apology. And he has escaped relatively unscathed.

Why the different treatment?. Dave being a victim of extortion doesn't fly. Tiger was a victim of extortion and still is. Why does a guy who mocked people for their sexcapades get a free pass while a non controversial athlete gets vilified for his

Must be the racist Liberal media. How has FoxesNews handled this?

Hmm :dunno:

Doubt its racist.....Guessing it has more to do with the fact that Letterman uses his pulpit in a way that is agreeable with the media....Just a hunch though.

It's how you deal with it basically....

How many major sponsors does Letterman have?

That makes a difference though

Dave is better protected and he essentially gets rewarded for his behavior and the liberal media largely so, and with a short memory, let this one pass quickly. I hope his show fails.

Tiger? Just like Dave, both made mistakes but Tiger doesn't go around belittling people everyday. He values his privacy. Dave? He deserves it more and had it coming with his mouth of his.

Yeah....You would think at the very least they would be treated the same. Either both ignored or both vilified.

Took me a while to figure out who Dave was!

Tiger Woods had clauses in his contracts with his sponsors that his sponsors can drop Tiger Woods if they feel that he did something "immoral."

Sponsoring a show is NOT the same as sponsoring Tiger in THEIR ads.

What the hell does liberal media have to do with this? You politicize everything. Tiger Woods is NOT a political figure.

Nor is Dave. He's just a talk show host. *shrugs*

A very opinionated Talk show host though. The point is.....why the difference

Well, what do you want to happen to Dave?

People do NOT CARE about Dave, so there is not many dave letterman jokes out there. we're probably used up all the jokes on tiger. People pay attention to Tiger and that is where the $$ is for the press.

And again, dave doesnt have that many corporate sponsors or what not to rely on.

He joked about it, so the media can't really do anything about it, except to take it as it is.

Actually there are "Morals clauses" in both Personal Services contracts and contracts for advertising. Also talk show hosts are normally considered contractors rather than employees and those contracts also contain morals clauses.

I don't know that I have the answer.....that's why I phrased it as a question....

I also believe that companies are "broke" and don't have enough money to support Tiger Woods and since he was a naughty boy, they could just get away with the "moral clause."

Why continue to support Letterman then?

Well, Tiger and his wife are back together again, kissing and making up. I'm sure sponsors will come around again soon enough.

Davey boy? He seems not to care.

Because he makes money for them.

And he's cheaper than Tiger Woods. :)

I mean, seriously, which is more shocking: a comedian who has a long history of mischief (and divorces, too, right?) or a golfer who is admired for his character only to be cheating behind his wife's back with lots of mistresses.

Different treatments for different reasons.
