The State Journal - News for West Virginia's Leaders
An 81-year-old deaf woman was at her home on Crescent Road two weeks ago when four men reportedly came into the house and robbed her.
They allegedly stole her purse with her checkbook in it. They cashed one of the checks at a local bar and then they tried to cash another check at a bank.
Not only did the bank refuse to cash the check, but it turned out to be their downfall.
"The bank surveillance tape picked up the attempted transaction," said Sheriff Fred Thompson. "By looking at the tape and by some other investigation, we were able to arrest three of the four suspects."
He said Walter Winland, Jr., Brandon Woods and Matt Knollinger, all of Holloway, are in custody.
A fourth suspect has reportedly left the area, but Thompson said they have some good leads on his location.
