Think your recycling efforts are helping?

ouchie!

Deffenbaugh Disposal Service (DDS) in Johnson County, KS are very honest. I have watched them dump trash on one truck and left, Then another truck for recycling only and recycles dumped in. They have large recycling plant that I drove by often. So far no illegal activities. We used to recycle glass and now they no longer accepting glass due to liabilty reason. So we throw glass in trash.

Why they no longer accept for glass? That's ludicrous!! What about
compact-fluorescent bulbs have glass element, huh?

Here in N.C. we pay for recycling in our property tax bill. They come by once a week and pick up all cans, glass, plastic and paper (boxes too). For trash, which is picked up by a separate company, it is pay as you go. You have to buy garbage stickers for each can/bag of trash.
Grass, etc. is considered "from the earth" so, out in the country where I live, you can burn it. We do try to recycle most of things allowed, but once in a while, let's say the product inside expired..sorry..that goes in the trash. Nasty smells are not nice for anyone...
Where I work recycles too..at least for the most part. But then that comes back to the individual. We have trash cans, cans for metal and cans for plastic. Most people use the cans correctly, but some get lazy and just toss all in trash can. We shred paper and send plastic bags, etc to be recycled as well. They are all tossed into a bailer in between the cardboard we recycle as well and are picked up each week.We also have a place we can send flourescent bulbs to for proper handling, as well as batteries. And another place comes and picks up spray cans and chemicals that can be hazardous. It is a great system if all would just pitch in and use it.

Proudly Recycling

I do recycle. Because I live in an apartment building, it's not a practice, for me, in separating glass, plastic, and tin.

How do I recycle, you wonder?

I donate my clothes to a local charity (like Goodwill or Salvation Army). Goodwill re-sells the clothes through their Thrift Stores. I rummage through their clothing selection and find things as fashionable as six months to a year ago - at bargain prices.

That's how I recycle and everybody's happy.

(Of course, there are some bad apples in a crowd. You can't take one example and discount everything else.)

I do Salvation Army and Goodwill too.. a really great way to recycle, and it is tax deductible as well.

Our area is very rural and we dont do the recycling thing here. Of course one day we may have to if it becomes state law for whatever reason.

*something tells me we are about to hit another 70s like decade where everyone is all about saving the planet. You know recycling, being energy efficient/conscious, reducing your carbon footprint. I think Earth Day was born out of the 70s Earth Movement wasnt' it?

Here in southern Calif, we have much the same kind of system Etalton speaks of. We also to the Goodwill/Salvation Army thing about once a year.

This is crazy and unprofessional job of the waste haulers. Not only they broke the law, they broke the trust of their customers as well. Hopefully they get to clean up their act and do the job properly.

Reminds me of my trash man. And they get paid well to do this too!!!!!!

You can take it to disposal service to give them, also never throw fluorescent bulbs in trash due mercury, if it breaks in trash then you can get mercery in air. If they don't offers recycle or service to pick up then you can still use old fashioned inflorescent bulbs, it's safer to throw in trash but good luck with high electricity bill.

Oh Jeez.. I do recycling with plastics, metals and garbages! :D

wow :eek3: pick up on same time?

I have 3 different bins for plastic, trash and paper here in my property.

Trash pick-ups every 2 week (Wednesday)
Plastic pick-ups every 2 weeks (Monday)
paper once a month

We have to collect empty metal cans, green, brown & white glasses for go to recycling center to sort 4 different big garbage containers. 4 big garbage containers for one villiage and then one for next village... and few for town... more than few for cities here in Germany... You will pay EUR 1,500 fine if they found mixed in one bin or they refuse to empty your bins with warning note...
