Theatre Sets the Stage for Aid for Deaf - Entertainment - redOrbit

DEAF and hard of hearing people can rediscover the joys of watching a live performance at an open day at the King's Theatre.

The Federation of Scottish Theatre and Artlink is inviting people to find out more about captioning in theatres on Saturday, October 4.

Similar to TV subtitles, this provides people with hearing loss access to live performance. Audiences can follow the plot via live captions on a laptop computer. It is also useful for spectators whose first language is not English.

People can enjoy a free talk and refreshments, and win tickets to the captioned performance of Sunset Song at 2.30pm.

Clare Booth, a development officer at Festival City Theatres Trust, said: "We are committed to providing accessible performances wherever possible. We have been working hard to develop our audiences and raise awareness of captioning as it is a relatively new service in Scotland."
