Dig this,

I was a 24 year old medical student in the US before deciding I wanted to see a bit of the world before I got old. I went to a youth hostel in New Delhi during summer break while wating for a freind from law school inte the US to meet me there., In four days the owners of the guest house, who were clearly dealing heroine, decided that they did not trust me, did not like Americans, and drugged the coke I was drinking (the skin under my fingernails turned purple/blue and I got really sleepy) then they surrounded me and dropped me off their balcony which is about 2o feet (more than 6 meters) from the ground. I woke up in the Apollo hospital with a spinal cord injury and a serious skull fracture. I was airlifted back to the US to recieve further surgery and I can, by Grace ogf God, walk now but my life will never be the same. I have a loving family, always admired India for its rich culture and read a bit about Mother Theresa and how much she contributed to the poor and destitute in your country and am half European (not known I guess by the people at the hostile) and so I ask… WHY IS THE WORLD SO FUCKED UP?

How old are you now? I hope you don't mind me asking.

I never had that problem when I lived in Bombay (Mumbai).

Did you do something to piss them off?

Its a shame these theird world countries in order to servive they have to sell drugs and also their families sell their daughters. Now it a shame what happend to you. But I think ... When you travel now a days we have to know first where to go. Eventhou its exsotic those places bring trouble. Yes indeed the world is f..up no matter where you go.

Excellent question. If one is not familiar with the cultural norms and values of the country in which they are a visitor, it is very easy indeed to unintentionally piss people off.

:gpost: maybe he ate the steak/hamburger.

Because They are stupid people. No offense.

They are not stupid people, Meggie. They are members of a different culture, and what is proper in their culture may not be proper in yours. Some of these people live in conditions that you can't even imagine. They do what they need to do to survive.

I know what I meant. Stupid as dumb no. I have different meaning.

Since when do people think it will be Disney World when visiting a third world country? I don't trust these people as their economic circumstances make them live in hellish conditions making them unpredictable. Do your homework about the area and who you will be dealing with. Of course the world is nasty, but there are better places too - if you find them.

Good point.

3rd world is survival for what they must to do to protect and live. It's always tough but i agree with you, world is ugly and isnt Garden of Eden at this time. Unfortunely.
