The Subtitles Vs. Captions Debate/Poll

Do you prefer Subtitles or Captions when viewing a DVD?

I prefer CC, however it depends on which company make it.

SDH have a lot of errors too, even spelling errors.

SDH take up too much space on the screen. CC is smaller which is what I want.

I think they should offer both, SDH for deaf also people who are deaf and blind (bigger letter like those on DVD's) and CC for people who doesn't want it cover the screen, but on the black part of widescreen (black bar).

I agree, they should not be able to choose if SDH or CC is on a DVD. It should be automatic so that the viewer has a choice, not the company. I suspect some companies are opting to do SDH in-house because it is cheaper than paying a CC company. HD DVD does not have captioning, but Subtitles and SDH. Is this the future of movies on disc, no CC's anymore, but subtitles?

That's right. A lot of HDTVs with HDMI/DVI inputs lack CC. That's why they're using SDH instead.

I disagree. If they offer SDH on DVD, there's no need for the CC. Why make them pay more? They contain the same information, it's just a waste of money to put both CC and SDH onto the DVD.

Well, what about what I like? I hated SDH, period. It ruins the picture for me, which is reason why I pick CC because it is usually on the black part of the screen, where the picture does not exist.

And CC have less chance of getting letters blurry. My dvd player does not do subtitles very well so it ending up being little blurry and so it's annoy. It sucks that I have to turn on SDH all the time when I already have CC on because of TV show.

They shouldn't force us to stick with one option, since hearing people can pick different types of sound they want to use. Why can't I do that too?

Also SDH is always big, and I do not need that. Either they fix SDH or I will want to be allowed to pick one that suit me the best.
 
You can design on your own closed captioned on HDTV. I know some of you does not have HDTV. But soon you will own hdtv in the future. Anyway, for me. It does not matter. At least that I can read both as subtitles or CC.

It will be nice to have subtitle or CC on the black bar while watching on widescreen. So it wont be any on the picture.

Mine does have cc on black bar depends on size of your television. If your tv is small and it is more likely cc will be on the picture. If you have big screen tv like 40 above. It can able have cc or subtitles on the black bar.
