The Deaf Society of NSW endorses Colin Allen for World Federation of the Deaf Presidency Nominee - Your News - Parramatta Advertiser
The Board of the Deaf Society of NSW has endorsed Colin Allen’s World Federation of the Deaf President nomination which was proposed by Deaf Australia, an Ordinary Member of the World Federation of the Deaf.
The Board has recognised Colin Allen as a significant contributor to the International Deaf Community worldwide and fully endorses his nomination for the role of WFD President.
Over the last ten years, Mr Allen has worked with the World Federation of the Deaf, the Finnish Association of the Deaf, the Swedish National Association of the Deaf, the Denmark Deaf Association and the Norwegian Association of the Deaf to contribute to achieving Human Rights for Deaf people in at least 30 different countries.
In late 2009, the Deaf Society of NSW appointed Mr Allen as its Director of Services. In this role, Mr Allen is responsible for overseeing four service departments, led by four managers with a total of thirty-seven staff members (both deaf and hearing) with a combined annual turnover of AUD$3.3 million. Later in 2010 Mr Allen will be responsible to establish a fifth service department, ‘Advocacy and Community Development’.
The World Federation of the Deaf will hold its General Assembly in Durban, South Africa on 16 and 17 July, 2011 to elect the new board members including President. 131 Ordinary Members of the World Federation of the Deaf are eligible to vote.
If Mr Allen is elected as WFD President, Deaf Society of NSW board members, staff members and community members will support him to continue his work with deaf people around the world through the World Federation of the Deaf.
The Deaf Society of NSW will host the 2nd International Conference of the World Federation of the Deaf, on 16-18 October 2013 in Sydney, Australia.
