I'm asking for a debate on these positions relevant to how easy it would be for any deaf person to acquire the requisite skills, education and training to do these positions.
One example, the first on the list: Audiologist. Does it require good hearing to evaluate others with possible hearing problems? Are there certain barriers to entry that deaf people need to be aware of before pursuing a career in audiology? Will having a hearing loss be a benefit or a detriment to attracting clients to their practice? Will the level of education needed to practice limit the number of potential deaf applicants?
I have other concerns, but my first and foremost is this: Only 2 of these careers do NOT require college degrees of some sort, and many require advanced degrees such as Master's or PhD's. College is very accessible these days for deaf students, but is it affordable? Are colleges more accessible to mainstreamed individuals than those who graduate from a deaf institution?
