Texas May Raise Speed Limit to 85 MPH?

3100 rpm is not going to hurt your engine. My car is a 4speed AT, 75mph is ~2800rpm

Well....my 2000 Honda shows about 3000 rpm at 70 mph or so. Basically you don't want to let engine spin at over 4000 rpm for a long period of time which could probably shorten the lifespan of the engine. I think it depends on what kind of engine you have in your car. Bigger engines don't spin as fast as smaller engines.

L-O-L. my truck. 80mph. no problem. cruising along like a yacht.

Higher speed limits would be great. :laugh2:

I would remove the rev limiter on my HEMI Jeep. Top speed 130 right now.

There must have been a reason they built my speedo to 140.

Well, 85 mph is kind of excessive considering how fast it'll wear your tires out.

Of course, Ontario has a speed limit of 100 km/h or 62 mph. Slow compared to here in the states.

As a bonus, here's a photo of highway 401 in Toronto, Ontario Canada. This is the busiest freeway in North America...yep more than Los Angeles...surprise!

Could be because that is the top speed your tires (orginal) could take. All tires have certain speed they can take and sometimes they would put cheaper tires on car and limit speed of car to conform to tire limit.

Well, I would say it varies by the state. For instance, NY and PA states have a speed limit of 55 and 65.

Yes I forgot. You are correct. I would have to buy the higher speed rated tires. My son-in-law recently bought two replacement high speed tires for his Infinity G35. $$$$$$ :eek3:

Yeah, most of the West US are 70 and 75 mph, respectively. Here in Iowa is 70 mph on interstates and 65 mph on US highways.

Here in South Carolina it is 70. Most drivers around here drive 80-85.

I think most stock tires are rated to 112 mph with the exception of sports cars.

Would you drive the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8?

My speedo goes to 110, but I highly doubt I could get it going that fast. I would need a long downhill and a tailwind. :)

^^SRT8 jeeps are amazing machines. If youve never drove one, you have to try it.

also I do know the difference between my car and the above posters diesel. I was just saying 300rpm difference is going to hurt anything at such low range.
