Got this thru one of the listserves Im on... am wondering about how deaf Tennesseans are going to feel about this?

Tennessee to End Expanded Medicaid Program

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The governor announced plans Wednesday to dissolve
Tennessee's expanded Medicaid system and drop 430,000 poor and
disabled people from the rolls of the health-care program that has
been devouring a large chunk of the state budget.

Democratic Gov. Phil Bredesen said Tennessee will instead return to a
cheaper, more basic Medicaid program.

"It pains me more than I can describe to take this path," he
said. "This is not what I planned for or what I dreamed about doing
as governor."

Gee, how saddening this must be upon the many people enrolled under this health plan, including all those Deafies/HoH individuals that are under it...and since a 'health plan' is exceedingly vital, I'm wondering why the state of Tennessee couldn't find some other areas that they could have easily cut fundings on? This surely will affect many people who have depended on this sort of plan and now will have to resort to a lesser plan which might lead many unable to afford whatsoever....
 
the problem is the gross misuse of the program.

it has less to do with money, and more to do with people abusing the free medication, and doctors over-medicating people.

i've heard some pretty disturbing stories about people getting medicine at one pharmacy, then going to the next pharmacy down the street and getting the same prescription filled again, then going home and selling the extra.


i just wish they could find a way to fix it without scrapping the thing all together, alot of people WILL die if it gets canceled, but at the moment there is a hold on canceling it while the govener tries to fix it.
 
I was reading about the troubled TennCare system off WATE.com and WBIR.com sites (I am a then longtime resident of Loudon County.) It looks like our former governor Ned McWherter (sp?) is ordered by the Judge to help the current governor to try fix TennCare. I guess because Ned was the one who started TennCare. I hope they can get it fixed ASAP for those people who need it.
