Temple Woman Named To School For Deaf Governing Board
Beatrice Burke of Temple is among six people whom Gov. Rick Perry named to the Texas School for the Deaf Governing Board Tuesday.
The board functions much as a local school board and provides oversight of services, budget preparation and appointment of the school’s superintendent.
Burke is a retired associate professor at Southwest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf.
She is being reappointed for a term that will expire on Jan. 31, 2013.
The appointments are subject to confirmation by the Texas Senate.

Beatrice M. Burke of Temple is a retired associate professor at the Southwest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf. She is a member of the National and Texas associations of the Deaf and Southwest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf Advisory Committee. She is also a permanent member of the Convention of American Instructor for the Deaf. Burke received a bachelor’s degree from Gallaudet College and a master’s degree in English from Texas State University. She is being reappointed for a term to expire Jan. 31, 2013.
Walt Camenish III of Austin is a certified deaf interpreter, and retired deaf educator and principal of the Texas School for the Deaf. He is a member of the Southwest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf Advisory Committee, Texas School for the Deaf Alumni Association and Southwest Deaf Golf Association. Camenish received a bachelor’s degree from Gallaudet University and a master’s degree in education administration from the University of Texas at Austin. He is being reappointed for a term to expire Jan. 31, 2015, and will continue as chair of the board.
Nancy M. Carrizales of Katy is a substitute teacher for the deaf in the Katy and Cypress Independent School Districts, and a former teacher at the Texas School for the Deaf. She is a member of the Katy Independent School District Special Education Committee and a past member of the Strategic Planning Committee. She is also vice president of the St. Dominic Club at St. Dominic Catholic Church. Carrizales received a bachelor’s degree from Gallaudet University and a master’s degree in deaf education from McDaniel University. She is being reappointed for a term to expire Jan. 31, 2013.
Eric Hogue of Wylie is mayor of Wylie and executive communication manager at Electronic Data Systems. He is chair of the Birmingham Land Trust and a board member of LifePath Systems. He is also chair of the Wylie Parks and Recreation 4B Board and a member of the Wylie Independent School District Education Foundation. Hogue received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He replaces Charles Estes of Fort Worth for a term to expire Jan. 31, 2015.
Susan K. Ridley of Sugar Land is a financial analyst at the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She is a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Houston Chapter of the Hearing Loss Association. Ridley received a bachelor’s degree from Sam Houston State University. She replaces Dale Kesterson of Big Spring for a term to expire Jan. 31, 2013.
Angela Wolf of Austin is director of human resources for the Public Utility Commission of Texas. She is a member of the Texas School for the Deaf Parent Teacher Association and American Society for Deaf Children. Wolf received a bachelor’s degree from Stephen F. Austin State University. She is being reappointed for a term to expire Jan. 31, 2015.
