Teen gets 20 years for gang rape of woman, son

16-year-old agrees to plea deal, will testify against three other suspects

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - A teenager charged in the horrifying gang rape and beating of a woman and her son agreed to a plea deal Monday that will send him to prison for 20 years.

Jakaris Taylor, 16, pleaded guilty to sexual battery and burglary and will testify against three other teens charged in the June attack, according to the state attorney's office. He will be credited for 130 days already served.

Three other teens — 18, 17 and 14 — face charges including sexual battery, kidnapping and burglary. They could face life sentences if convicted.

A woman told police that as many as 10 masked teens accosted her and her 12-year-old son in their apartment in a housing project.

The teens are accused of raping and sodomizing the mother, forcing her at gunpoint to perform oral sex on her son, and beating both of them. The suspects then doused them with cleaning solutions in an attempt to destroy evidence, police said.

Taylor's lawyer, Chris Haddad, told The Palm Beach Post that the teen has expressed remorse and regret and wants a chance to have a family when he is released.

The accuser is satisfied with the plea deal, said state prosecutor Lanna Belohlavek.

"She's hoping by having this defendant testify against the others, she won't have to — nor will her son have to — go through the trauma of reliving it," Belohlavek told the Post.

I don't agree with judge's sentence and treat teenager as an adult because teenager should get the help. He is too young to face the crime... :(

I am in the same as you.. 20 years sentence is too much for teenager... I wonder if they have the felony background? I know the court are usually become more stricter on those people who have too much of bad records in background..

Good question.

Let us to focus his background first but I am still disagree with judge's decision.

Gang rapes have never stop for years and it a terrible situation. Gang rape is not a new phenomenon. It terrible crimes that never stopped.

I agree with the sentence. 20 years is good. Maybe when he is 40 years old, he'll learn his lesson and then decide to have a family and get counseling.

A rapist never really truley learn a lesson or be reformed! It not always possible for a rapist to change.

I'm sorry but I agree with the sentence, what those teenager boys did was horrible and forcing the mother to perform oral sex on her 12 years old son, that is just sick, I'm just glad that they got what they deserved...

It doesn't matter how he will learn his lesson or be reformed.

He just needs to be punish for his action. Then after he served time,
then he can do whatever.... go right path or wrong path.

If he didn't do it, and if he feels that justice is unfair, then he needs
to do something about it. He shouldn't wait, because it will be too late.

Too late... It doesn´t solve anything when he get counseling after 20 years jail. Of course he will repeat his crime or suffer mental illness...

Yes I agree what they did is definitely sick. They should be sent to secure home for the youth (Physical home) and get the help to find out why they did because they are too young to face crime. Like what Puyo said, first focus their background to find out.

20 years sentence for the teenagers doesn´t solve anything because they will learn bad things more and more and will repeat their crime when they free from jail.

20 years in jail doesn't cause people to repeat crime or suffer mental illness.

I met an ex convict/prisoner and he was age 45, and went to colleges. Trying to
fix his life up. He made good grade in Statistic. He said he wants to
own a business.

Don't worry, they will be alright.

The 16 years old agreed with the 20 years sentence and willing to testify against the other teenagers..

Even if they get lesser sentence it doesn't solve what they did to this poor family, they forced their way into the woman's apartment raped her, force her to perform oral sex on her son, making him have sex with his mother in front of them, tortured and brutally beaten them both and they also poured household cleaning liquids into son's eyes, I can not understand how a teenager this young would commit such a horrible crime but sadly some people will only begin to "think" when it happens to them or their loved ones....I know they're kids who made a terrible mistake but they are old enough to know what is right and wrong but they choose to commit such a horrible crime that will effect the rest of their lives...

Its depends because some people do repeat their crime, some don't and some returned to prison for probation violations...

Yep it's sick because lot of crimes like that forcing a parents or their young son or teenager to perform sexual acts with a gun head to their heads is scary. This also happen in Africa and other countries so we live in a sick world.

What world do you live in? Prisons are breeding grounds for both recidivism and mental illness.
