Taxpayers Turn U.S. Farmers Into Fat Cats With Subsidies

George Carlin wrote about this very thing back in 1997 in the book Brain Droppings. He basically said Farmers like to play up how independent and strong they are and oppose welfare for people in the city, but don't mind taking another kind of welfare themselves. Not an exact quote, just a summary of something he wrote.
 
Well most of them are factory farms rather then independent farms
 
This twists the farmers stance making them look like the bad fellas... its not working this way. Many farmers are hurting actually and we are having a bad problem keeping farms now that many families are getting out of farming businesses and we are becoming more dependent on imports of food than exporting. Its a huge scary picture
