Tax on rich people

True, and when it comes to election, pretty much every candidates I see were playing with Americans mind by using negative remarks against others as if it were big deal where it isn't while masking the real issues. Sad!

right. that's what I just said - "CITIZENS need to get their ass up and start paying attention on what's going on so that they can vote right people to do the job."

I certainly hope they vote with logic, not emotion.

Well, let's see, according to 2008 US Census, 10.2% of households earn more than $100,000. The median income is $50,303. Is it fair for that 10.2% to bear the burden of supporting (via social services) roughly 40-60% of households that are in porverty? The remaining 20-40% are squeezed in a vise because they don't qualify for social services yet pay a higher tax rate.

While we need to get something done about tax rates, we also need more federal regulation on big things like housing. Remember the mortgage crisis? If we had better banking regulation on loans, we wouldn't be in such a big mess. If we had universal health care and people had health care first before applying for welfare or SSDI, more people would be back in the worforce and taking care of themselves.

Tax rates are not the only thing that makes it difficult to balance the federal budget. What someone said about what is wasteful to one person is not wasteful to another is very true. I know there are people out there who would rather slash social services and let the poor people fend for themselves and let capitalism have free rein of the economy. And you know what capitalism mean: millions of money for the higher-ups and pennies for the people on the lower levels.

we can use common sense approach instead of bickering over complex issues.

for ie - it does not make sense to hire private defense contractors to escort our diplomats in Iraq when we have already have our own military to do the same job for a fraction of the cost.

Another one - cut down wasteful spending on law enforcement duties especially for very petty marijuana charges such as a joint. Just issue them citations and let them go. I can't imagine how much billions of dollars we'd save from this.

Our defense budget needs to be trimmed down but do not touch GI benefits.

I just saw the documentary on soldiers for hire last night on tv, it was called "Shadow Company" - . those guns for hire escort private companies and contracts (i.e. through downtown traffic, escorting from airports, escorting news teams, businessmen, etc), which the military is not hired nor intended to do.

Canadian increase crazy on seems on tax expensive crap! gas and expensive!

Taxes decreased on the last years tax return. Just review last year to the previous year-assuming one filed a tax return.
Not sure what the tax rate on "expensive crap" is? I don't recall seeing "this" on last years return>

Of some interest to persons here-Canadians-the deduction for disability -taken?

Travis: disability deduction line 316 is $7239.00. Part of the Federal 15% reduction of Federal tax. What SASK does- not sure ( Ontario gives 5.05% line 5844)

So much for taxes!

military can provide that protection (except for corporate-related matters) but instead.... State Department chose to contract with private contractors because we both know what's going on there.

Travis: 15% of $7239 is $1085.85 -FEDERAL not $700.00. As mentioned before-. one must file a tax return taking the disability deduction-line 316.

It is a factual matter that one filed a tax return - taking line 316.

Yep. Private contractors are not as bound by law and protocol as the military.

A lot of people dont realize that most of the super rich make their money in capital gains. They dont pay income taxes. They pay a capital gains tax of 15%. Thats how Warren Buffet pays less percentage in taxes than his secretary.

I dont know what the answer is.

well I wouldn't say that and associate them with some "common thug mercenaries." Many of them are former military soldiers especially special forces. It's just that it pays more and I don't blame them. Defense Contractors must abide by State Department's regulations and foreign country's laws.

I'm just not comfortable with paying for its high cost of service when we can use our military for same job.

Well, some of them ARE common thugs. It's the name of the game. I think you'd be really interested in seeing "Shadow Company" - it was a fascinating and very educational documentary.

what does that have to do with anything? Youre assuming every rich person donates like Buffet.

Buffet is just an old geezer trying to buy his way to heaven

yes - some are criminals and murderers. They were brought to trial and imprisoned. GOOD!

I've heard of Shadow Company but it reeks of "Michael Moore'ish".

I'm not talking about anybody else. I'm specifically talking about Warren Buffet since you brought it up.
