If the Tyrannosaurus rex was alive today it would not be able to hear you scream, say scientists.

Large dinosaurs had limited hearing and could not pick up high-pitched sounds, a study has found.

T rex would have been deaf to human screams, according to Otto Gleich, from the University of Regensburg in Germany.

Hmm... in that case, Jurassic Park made a mistake. ;)

Hey, SHHH and other groups would get a kick out of that. They should make a "Ted the Tyrannosaurus Rex" mascot and point out that Ted, like most of his kind, was partially deaf. ;)

BWHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAH!!!!! Endy, great idear! Unfortunatly, SHHH is so overrun by boring people, that they'd never do something like that. I actually told them that a big part of the reason why membership is kind of inactive among younger hohies, is b/c they focus too much on boring bland Hearing Health style issues..... I mean the way it's presented is akin to reading the tax code out loud for a bedtime story!!!! They totally bashed me......I was like..... whatever!

But how do Scientists really know that, all they could find was their bones...

btw I couldn't read the story cause it says " Sorry, the story you are looking for is not available. " :dunno:

Remember that the ear has 3 bones in it. And there are also holes in the skull for the ears and cavities in the skull for the inner ears. Here's a page with pictures of reptile and mamal ears. The ear picture is the second picture in that section. Here's some stuff on present day reptile ears.

I found another article about the same thing. What they measured was the cochlear duct in the skull. With mammals, the cochlea is shaped like a snail shell. With birds and reptiles, it is shaped like a tube, so that's why it's called a duct in those animals. The size of the duct can give a frequency range that could be heard. Here's a page on how the different frequencies are picked up by the hair cells. Interestingly, to make it clear, the picture there shows the inner ear as a cylinder, like it is in reptiles and birds.
