The Oregon Department of Education/Oregon School for the Deaf is conducting a search for the Supervising Teacher (Director of Instruction). This position is permanent, full-time (based on a 220-day school year) and is in management service.
ABOUT THE OREGON SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF
The Oregon School for the Deaf (OSD) provides direct 24-hour educational and residential services to approximately 120 students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, kindergarten through 21. OSD acts as a resource to the entire state, providing special activities, consultation, and educational services to students, professionals, families and the public. OSD is an important part of the Oregon Department of Education's services to children, families and school districts in the state of Oregon. OSD provides comprehensive, specialized, educational services for children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in a setting that is communication-accessible through the use of American Sign Language by all staff. High quality teachers, educational support services specialists and residential staff work closely with parents, school districts, and other professionals and community partners to meet the needs of each child. Established in 1870, OSD is one of Oregon's oldest and proudest state-operated programs.

DUTIES
The supervising teacher oversees the academic programming of the school. The school itself is driven by the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process, and this supervising teacher is the agent to manage the IEPs for all the students, measuring the progress of each student over the school year. The supervising teacher monitors and evaluates the teachers as they teach CCS-guided courses. The supervisor provides appropriate professional development to staff members. The supervising teacher also supervises assessment and data collection which then informs the teachers on how to improve their instruction.
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will at a minimum have:
An Oregon Administrative License/Certificate or the ability to obtain appropriate Oregon Administrative Licensure/Certification by time of appointment;
AND
Knowledge of Deafness, deaf education and best practices in instruction and residential living.
The expected American Sign Language (ASL) level for a Supervising Teacher is 3.
The successful candidate will possess the following desired attributes:

· Experience with and understanding behavior management
· Experience with the IEP process
· Knowledge of general education practices, Special Education laws and regulations
· Problem solving abilities

· Excellent interpersonal skills
· Excellent organization and record-keeping skills
· Excellent written communication skills
