Super Bowl Ring Found in Airport Bathroom
While it is not the first time someone has inadvertently left something behind in an airport restroom, the discovery of a misplaced Super Bowl ring by an airport employee at the Mineta San Jose International Airport probably was the most “blingy” and valuable of items.
Arra Daquina, an employee at a Starbucks outpost in the airport’s baggage claim area, happened upon the ring of a San Francisco 49ers player from the team’s Super Bowl XIX victory over the Miami Dolphins in 1984.
The identity of the owner of the ring was easily discovered as the name John Macaulay, the center on the 1984 49ers team, was engraved on the side of it.
Saying, “I didn’t know what it was, but it was big and heavy,” Daquina turned the ring over to Denny Pfaff, a volunteer at one of the airport’s information booths.
Ultimately, Macaulay, now a doctor and a tech professional, came looking for it and the ring was returned to its rightful owner.
Macaulay, according to a San Jose Mercury News report, said he was amazed at how quickly the ring was back in his possession.
Even though Macaulay’s ordeal did have a happy ending, let this be a lesson to everyone: Don’t leave your Super Bowl ring in an airport bathroom. If you have one, that is. I guess the lesson applies to other, less valuable stuff as well.
