A DEAF fisherman could not hear his friend warning him not to pick a weaver fish from his line, and ended up in hospital with a sting.
The man, in his 60s, was not from the Bridlington area, but was on board the fishing vessel the Rachel Kay.
When the fish, which is usually found in the sand in shallower waters, was pulled up on the line at around 11am on Monday (September 12), he failed to heed his friends warnings about its sting and grabbed it.
The vessel was only around 10 minutes from Bridlington harbour at the time, and he returned to shore to seek medical treatment.
Coastguards recommend that the best way to relieve the sting of the weaver fish is to hold the wound in water as hot as is bearable.
