The State Board of Education is gathering public comments on the future of the Idaho School for the Deaf and Blind.
The state-mandated school offers both a residential campus and outreach programs for students at other schools throughout Idaho.
Lawmakers say it's struggled with rising costs and declining enrollment.
On Thursday, community members and teachers in Gooding said they feared that lawmakers will reduce services at the residential campus.
Teacher Vicki Roper says the school provides its students with the confidence to succeed.
The board will develop recommendations on ways to improve the delivery of services to send to the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee in December.
