Special-ed teacher jailed, whipped for raping two deaf-mute students
A teacher of the Special Education Primary School in Tuaran will now have to spend a total of 36 years in prison plus 22 strokes of the cane for raping two deaf-mute student three years ago.
Shamirul Salleh, 34, was found guilty of raping a 14-year-old deaf-mute student between May 1 and 31 on the third floor of the school's teacher's quarters in Tuaran.
Senior Sessions Court Judge Caroline Bee Majanil sentenced the teacher to 18 years.
However, the judge granted an application by Shamirul who was represented by counsel Albert Tokuzip for a stay of execution pending the outcome of his appeal in the High Court.
Shamirul's bail of RM5,000 fully deposited in two sureties has been extended.
The latest jail sentence will run consecutively with the 18 years imposed by Session Court Judge Ravinthran Paramaguru on Shamirul on Sept 25, this year, for raping another deaf-mute student of the same school.
