I have researched for a while now, and I have found Speak N' Read and other similiar products. Speak N' Read runs about $3,500. Is there something like this for cheaper? If not, does anyone own a Speak N' Read who I could ask some questions about it? Thanks!

I looked at the website for this and am still unsure of the exact application of this. They listed ways to use it but it just seemed a bit vague to me. It sounds similar to the Dragon Naturally Speaking software. I have worked with this program and it is quite useful. However it takes a bit of 'teaching' the program to recognize a speaker's voice.

Nuance

It appears that the Speak N' Read is its own little device. Dragon can be installed onto any computer that fits the system requirements you can find on their site.

That software looks nice and it's a great price! However, I was looking from something handheld/portable?

I haven't had any experience with a hand held system of like Dragon. My deaf blind friend showed me a sort of 'two person tty' you can carry with you. I do not recall what it was called though but it allowed one person to type the message so it would show up on the screen or I think print like a little slip of braille. I do not quite remember.

I do not know of any portable voice recognition device. sorry, best of luck finding one! Post it here if you do, I'm sure I'm not the only one fascinated by adaptive technologies.
