I agree it would - but heres the kicker -- you couldnt receive the automated welcome to AD private message that encourages you to post.
Im sure there is a way you could receive PMs but not send them until you have x-amount of posts but it would be a headache and a half to set it up that way.
Plus some AD members joined here by friends from school and whatnot.
I think maybe it would be easier to have it set up where you have to post x-amount of times in various parts of the forum before you are allowed to start a new thread.
Im on one forum where you get only 1 post per day counted towards your post count in the general chat section. The rest of the posts have to come from critiques, contest entries, and what not. On another forum, you have to critique three other threads before starting your own and you have to show where you critiqued them otherwise your thread is taken down.
This cuts down TREMENDOUSLY on trollers and spammers as you actually have to input something coherent and not random babbling. And believe it or not, post counts are actually higher rather than lower. You have fewer members that just register then leave.
Although while this forum isnt a writer's forum, it couldnt hurt to set up a similar but less stringent system where perhaps you get only 5 posts per day counted towards your overall post count from the general discussion section. (While it is the most active section on the forum, its also the hotspot for spammers and trollers) This also encourages members to post in various sections, not just one or two main sections, and I will admit I am just as guilty of this as anyone is.
While maybe we dont have to read and respond to others threads and show proof of it, I think there should be a certain limit on how many threads you can start within a certain time period - which too can help cut down on spammers besides having to post x-amount of times before being able to start threads.
