MUSIC fans are being urged to stage gigs, clubs and quiz nights across Edinburgh to help raise money for a leading deaf charity.

RNID, the national charity representing the nine million deaf and hard of hearing people in the UK, made the call earlier this week for people to stage "Don't Lose the Music" shows in venues across the Capital to help raise awareness of the ways people can protect their hearing.

The gigs will be part of a national campaign, supported by jazz star Jools Holland, which is aimed at raising awareness of the dangers of over-exposure to loud music.

Lisa McDonald, campaigns officer for RNID's Don't Lose the Music Campaign, said: "We would be delighted if music fans in Edinburgh show their support for Don't Lose the Music Week by organising a quiz or benefit gig in their local area.

"We hope that, whilst everyone is having fun people could also spare some time to consider how important it is to protect their hearing to enjoy the music for longer."

The Don't Lose the Music campaign runs from next Monday. For more information, visit AllDeaf.com or email dontlosethemusic@rnid.org.uk.
