Well for the elders that worked all their lives I think it is great.

For the able ones that are lazy and never worked are the ones that want to milk the system dry. Is not so great.

I think SSI needs to increase for the people that deserves it. So they can keep more up with the cost of living

Well, there's fairly many deaf people have trouble or very difficult to find job then they have sticking with SSI to survive, they can't survive without money and begging parent, grandparent or relative to give money isn't right answer. There's some people are in health concern and unable to work in safe environment are sticking with SSI as well.

There's some people are low paying job and still keep SSI, long as must inform SSI about job and some of money would be cut if needed.
 
yea my friend told me today. It'll help us out with bills and groceries. Darn groceries are expensive! :ugh: Especially the meats, dairy and few others.

I agree..my deaf friend had over 15 job interviews in the past year but hasnt been hired yet.

It is tough out there...
 
i had several interview since may.. no start work! grr idoit company.. they dont know how to hire me! rme!

Don't think so, do you have source about SS will increase percent rate on payroll?

ABLE ones. Their are a lot of able deaf people out there milking the system. Several are known to work under the table re read my post. The truely disabled needs help I agree.

The article is about Social Security benefits for retirement, Survivors and Disability. Not Supplement Security Income they are not same thing...
 
I got SS benefits, dunno what kind i have, never even cared. Since my mom died I was qualified for benefit and because I'm disability, I get a raise? Since it's strange, I was qualified for SS benefit before my mom died, so where does that leaves me? They say I will continue to receive SS benefit all my life unless I work. What does this mean? What kind of SS benefit do I have?

You're probably receiving SSI as well as survivor benefits because of your mother's death.

As for Social Security payments, one can still receive SS while working as long as they do not exceed a certain annual income limit (which I can't remember at the moment).

If you're not sure what kind of benefits you're receiving, I would contact your local SS office and find out. It's important to know this information -- especially if you receive an overpayment/underpayment from SS or encounter other problems with your SS payments.

Survivors benefits usually goes til one turns 21. I do not disagree with that either.

Yes I know about that and thank you for clearing this up. One can receive SS while working as long as they do not exceed a certain annual income limit and then they give you a decision after 9 months of working, while one exceed income limit then are force to make a decision to cut off SS benefits while one do not exceed income limit can continue to work as long as you inform the SSA with paycheck you receive from work. I believe it's a program called Ticket to Work but that's not necessary. Did I get it all right?
 
there are two different things here when working while on SS. One is ticket to work like nathan said. As long you report to SS the first month you started working and after 9 months you SS stops completely. the other one that we all should be aware of is the SGA. SGA means Substantial Gainful Activity. As of 2008 you can earn $940 a month and keep your SS. in 2009 it will go to $980 a month . Feel free to poke holes in this knowledge as this is how I:cool2: understand it
