Soap star has role to help deaf - Evening Times

AN EMMERDALE actress who is learning to sign for the deaf is coming to Glasgow to encourage others to take up the language.

Hannah Midgely, 13 - Victoria Sugden in Emmerdale - has learned a few British Sign Language phrases and will be at the Scottish Deaf Association event at the Kelvin Hall on October 7.

Around 2000 children in Scotland will learn one phrase of BSL a day during Learn to Sign Week, October 2-7.

The Scottish Deaf Association will also be at the St Enoch Centre from October 5-7 to urge people to learn to sign.

SDA spokeswoman Rachel Sedman said: "This will help build important links between the hearing and deaf communities and raise awareness of BSL."
