How it works:

For a successful egg farm you need to have your place biosecured.

The egg gets the salmonella bug by the hen eating rodent droppings that are infected of salmonella.

So.. Doing the math - 550,000,000 eggs are being recalled.

Top hens can crank out about 300 eggs a year. so at a minimum - 4 million hens are possibly infected with salmonella.

Now, in order to fix this issue - we pretty much have to take all the hens and kill them all. We can't eat them too.

*eating boiled egg*

huh what?

The result of factory farming and corrupt FDA officials and inspectors. I've said it before and I'll say it again: watch Food Inc. they explain all of this very clearly and also propose a solution.

My solution: Eggbeaters. Pasturized! Enjoy eating your cookie dough. :P

Yup. Thats what I love.

However what do we do with the chicken?

I am an EggBeaters fan as well. Have not purchased whole eggs in over a year. I will be getting an egg from a neighbor here soon for a lab work science project for my son, but I will not be buying a dozen. Neighbor gets her eggs from a local dairy farm here. I can't pay their prices.

We gotta keep the chickens because eggbeaters are real eggs. We just need to send those raw eggs to the place where they are pastuerized, like milk.

When the hen does lay eggs anymore, she goes in the pot! lol

Jiro - let's keep this realistic. So what you'd do with the hen, and how are you going to regrow the healthy hen:)

the same way that Chinese dealt with the problem.

Do you think its necessary to test those hens for samonella?

sure if we have 50 hens but we have thousands and thousands of them. got $$$?

for this - blame Obama.

depends on how bad this problem is and where the culprit is.

4million hen is my estimate.

The issue is one dude who owns several egg producing plants all over the place.. They all were in different names.

He's an "Habitual Violator" of the FDA thing. He knew about his chickens being infected.

So, blame the FDA, and him for this big fk up. :)
