I bought new PS2 with dual shock controllers last week, but was surprised to see it being way smaller than the original size. I know next to nothing about PS2. In your opinion is it as good as the original or better?

It's about the same specs except it's smaller also has built in network adapter to play games online.

We do have one...PS2 the thin one. We haven't use it for a while! It is nice to have smaller and thinner...it is so light too! :thumb: So have fun with it! Yes it can hook up online and also you can hook up keyboard. We have those. That's because DHB like to play online poker..he hasn't play in a while.

wow thats cool about hooking up to the keyboard... hadn't thought of that!! is there a link for playing games online via the thin model?

Yes, it's true.. so nice to have it lighter, and my nephew is so happy he doesnt have to drag his heavy old PS2 to my house everytime we have the kids overnight!

NO slight idea about link for games. I am sure DHB can reply ou that question when he have a chance!

Oh yea..I am glad he is happy boy carrying lighter PS2! :)

For me, original PS2 is better because it support hard drive but not sell anymore.

I have one of Playstation but I gave it to my 3rd sister and I got PS2 long time ago. I havent play that game yet lol  it sucks not enough room to plug in to play dang.

I have the old PS2 thats bigger and heavier and it still runs good. :)

The old PS2 is best suited for running Linux on it with the keyboard and mouse plugged to the USB port. The new one isn't because there's no room to put in a hard drive.

Well FFXI needs the HDD to support the game cause other wise if no HDD included the loading times will be very slow and need the HDD to save extra information in it rather than in the 8MB memory card since 8MB memory cards really suck today lol at leat there are 64MB memory cards that can hold at least about eight 8MB memory cards all at once so thats good. :D

Anyway, the slim PS2 is pretty good for giving you more space in ur room and is internet ready as well. If you only have the orginal PS2 you have to buy a seperate network adapter for that so which sucks indeed aye but slim PS2 is also a top loader which is alot better than having a disc tray since alot of ppl had problems with the PS2's disc tray or even have disc errors from it so the top loader is the easiest to go and I like top loaders the best like on orginal playstation, dreamcast and gamecube. I just wish there is a top loader system for xbox360 and Wii but ah well at least I experiened no problem with them at all thou.

The reason is because HDD can read/write data faster than the PS2's DVD/CD drive. The 40 gig HDD can read/write data at speeds of at roughly 30 MB/sec while that PS2's DVD drive can read at around 10-20 MB/sec. I don't remember, though.

Thanks! We're supposed to get something from the PS2 company for some network gaming in mail soon.

My nephew doesn't have the slim PS2, I do :) So he doesnt have to carry anything at all except his PS2 games.. and he has a million!

I like thin one better and less roomy. It runs better than old one.

PS2 is silm? No way .. PSP is more silm.. Heheheh.. just kidding.. i know what you talking about PS console.. wink!

I bet you, he would bug you to buy the PS3 for his sake... If you felt doubt about that, better watch.. Good luck.. ;0)

I bet that Xbgmer will get PS3 and become an Sony fanboy.

From time to time, Sony improved their console until it got to a point where it could be made smaller to save space.

They did the same thing with the original Playstation when they later came out with Playstation One. :)

Yeah I wouldnt be surprised if there is even a redesign of the PS3 model in the near future.
